Which camp is longer? Shark camp at least has downtime where you can get other stuff done...

you mean Ferocious Hammerhead that drops the Driftwood?

If I was using my Ranger, I'd rather do the Sarnak.

Anything else, the Hammerhead.

What's the question? Suckier or longer? Topic and text are incoherent.

All camps suck, otherwise we wouldn't see them as "camps".

@Loramin wrote the guide on A ferocious hammerhead. He'd know the answer to title.

As far as Sarnak Courier i've heard of people camping it 12-16 hours everyday day for 4-7 days with no drop.
Then other people pass through kill one and get it instantly.

Agree. Repops are quick and if you miss one of the phs, then you have to go back to slaughtering everything again til you find the ph again.

I've spent way too many hours on each and unsuccessfully. I say toss up.

there’s a guide for a camp that has 1 fairly static spawn point?

here’s a quick guide, you go to room just before Phinnys where you can click on the pillar that will move, youll find two sea horses and a shark. The shark is placeholder for ferocious and the higher level seahorse is the placeholder for the seahorse patriarch.

Damn you need to kill 3 (kos?) mobs in one room? shit, the frenzied hits hard according to wiki, maybe we couldn't duo it... Rats...

naw, the ferocious and his ph will path into the two smaller rooms where you can get him solo. No other mobs spawn or path in there either so its just a matter of killing one shark every xx minutes.

Took me approximately 300 hours to get my first driftwood chest, at an average of 1 named (which would never drop the box) every 10 hours. My second chest only took 30 hours.

Shittiest camp by a mile.

That sounds about as bad as courier with less attention.

I'm leaning towards shark camp unless the shark would eat my 56 warrior up/he couldn't regen to max in the downtime and get worn down.

you probably cant solo him on Toby, he hits for upper 150s and is tougher than Bubble, tho maybe if you disc use DS potion and small amount of emergency worts its doable.

Worst part of this camp as Jumba says is sometimes youll kill him and he will drop 0 loot. Its unreal for how rare he is on top of that. With that being said, Ive looted three chests myself and love the fact you can loot a 10 slot 100% wt giant bag.

There's nothing else in this game that drops off a lvl ~14 mob that can be camped by 5+ people at once that sells for 6-7k. Even if you make less money overall camping shark at least you can do other shit or look away for the screen for more than 15 or 30 seconds.

Sounds like the shark might fuck us up even in duo :(

Well one more level doing paineel guards, then I think I'll do giant skeletons/hill giants I guess. Will get exp and cash, might take me all the way to 39.

Hopefully have enough to buy courier ring and maybe the other upgrades people said I should get. Then just have to either attempt forager cycle or find another cool camp to get somewhere between 39-52.

Can't find that magic get rich quick camp so easily it seems.

Courier is the worst camp I've ever done and its not even close.

I went through over 200 couriers (stopped counting at 150ish) over a 3 week period and still didn't even get that damn ring. I should have given up after a few dozen couriers, but the super short respawn combined with being stubborn about giving up ("one more courier and im done") kept me going. Even doing the camp in 1-2 hour play sessions almost made me lose my mind and quit the game. I couldn't imagine doing that camp for a full day...

Stopped playing for a few weeks and then came back and bought the ring. Now every time I see it in my hotbar I am reminded of how much of a loser I am for trying to camp it instead of buying it

I love camping! Waking up in the caravan on the Austrian Alps or in a tent by the beach. Can't beat it!

I'm sad to see you view the phrase 'camp' to be an 'Arbeit Mach Frei' type reference instead of a bit of summer fun.

@ baler I've been both the hours of failed camping (my Mage did 12-25 in the field before I pulled out a ggr) and the walk thru finder (killed a courier otw to a monk epic fight and got the ring).

I think a good way to do ggr is to do it while it is xp, so there are side benefits to doing the camp. Those goblin bracers are okay experience.

Be warned; doing the courier camp will give you PTSD; every time you see a bloodstone ring drop anywhere you will suffer flashbacks.

Hey man it's a hard life as a main warrior. I highly suggest you hit sixty and then start selling +6 talis. I did it for a couple of months this year and made maybe 150k myself. You just need a torp sham to duo with. Three men to drop the CHers, sometimes your client can help push.

Good luck bro

Courier might not be as bad as a duo, one person kill for 15 min then AFK, other person kill for 15 min, repeat. Solo it is unbearable. Like someone else said you might get lucky and get it on the first couple spawns, or you could spend days there and not get one.

You might be better off farming something cheaper but less of a pain in the ass like shiny brass idols and selling them to buy ring.

I farmed 5 courier rings. I don't know anyone in their right mind that would ever intentionally farm a driftwood treasure chest. There are better bags that weigh 1/10th of the chest, and the opportunity cost to farm 5060p for a tink bag is a hell of a lot lower than camping the inferior heavy chest.

Why would you guys even want that trash?

If you've made the conscious decision to camp a 10wt bag, you have already lost. Then again, I wouldn't camp courier either..

Buying tink bags isn't an option and a lot of good bags are lore. Was thinking of selling them to make money.

I think I might just go after hill giants on the bard and make money that way, hope they aren't over camped though...

Dungeon groups are where all the real plat is made. SRo AC is easy enough though. Get up a little early in the morning and hit track at 9pm in the desert. You'll have a 1 in 10 chance of seeing him up and usually in the mornings you'll be the only one in zone. I got two rings that way without much effort or time.

Tobius
06-23-2018, 07:19 PM
If you spend an average of 200 hours to acquire a single 5k item, that works out to 25p/hour. Surely, you have better uses for your time if you're in Kedge's level range and specifically after plat. If you desperately need plat and have the bard capable of doing so, go Hill Giants all the way.

"Camping" ferocious is more for bored 60s that want the novelty of the chest - whether for nostalgia or simple rarity.

He's just about a level off from HG's, that was my next plan funnily enough. Sounds like I'm making the right call.

this thread inspired me to try again. Saw two Ferocious in about 12 hours and the second one was pay dirt. I consider myself lucky. =)

Sorry I'm late to the party; I've been up in Alaska on a cruise and just got back.

Baler's half-right: while I never made a formal guide, I did camp the hell out of that Ferocious Shark for quite awhile and take notes in a spreadsheet for about 300-odd kills. I think I might have posted my results in the forum at some point (thus the "guide" Baler referred to), but rather than put the whole spreadsheet on the wiki I just summarized my findings:

Since approximately 1/10th of the cauldron hammerheads respawn as ferocious hammerheads, and since approximately 1/10th of the ferocious hammerheads drop the chest, you can expect to kill approximately 90 cauldron hammerheads and 10 ferocious hammerheads for each dropped Driftwood Treasure Chest.

Saw two Ferocious in about 12 hours and the second one was pay dirt. I consider myself lucky. =)

Well, my results aren't big enough statistically to prove anything, but if they're something like 1 in 10 on average, getting 1 in 2 is definitely lucky :)

Why would you guys even want that trash?

I'm a Barbarian Shaman: even without casting Focus I can carry all my gear, six driftwood chests and a few hundred coin, and still have 20 stones of encumbrance left over. And if I have Focus ... well I can carry a lot more coin.

So while it took me a very long time to get those chests, because I was able to do it while working all it really cost me was a few more minutes of work at the end of the day (or a few less minutes of goofing off on the forums) to get 6 "free" tink bags. Good deal in my book.

As for which camp is worse, it's really apples and oranges since the chest takes longer but the courier requires more active playtime. In a way I think the courier is worse because it has lower odds and thus more variability. Personally I've never gone even 150 sharks in a row without getting a chest, whereas with the Courier it's a complete crapshoot: you can luck out early, but usually you sit there for hours and hours knowing you might still have to sit for hours and hours.

Chest is only worth about 100pp.

It sells for 4.5k or more (it's not as commonly sold so it's hard to gauge).

it's not at all the fastest way to make plat in a normal time sense, but it's not bad as an "AFK" camp.

I don't know how long I put in over one weekend, but I was camping him recently and I'm up to 42 courier spawns with no drop.

It's like.. idk. 15 hours of constant killing. I think it's a 22 second respawn, so one mob every 10 seconds or so. And god help you if you get drowsy or distracted for a moment and miss the spawn. The mob patrols instantly upon spawning and there's dozens of other mobs roaming around in the same area.

I'm relatively inexperienced with EQ so I don't know what that is. I'll have a look into the Wiki. :)

Never had a problem with courier. Had an epic mage and once I found PHs I just used my keyboard to automate and my pet kept the PHs down while I jerked off or did something else.

Pet class would make it easier. But even if you're one/twoshotting mobs as a melee class, that's still going to end up to - Kill mob. Turn around. Run 15 feet. Wait a moment. Kill mob. Turn around. Run 15 feet. Wait a moment. Kill mob. Etcetc

Like i said, I did it for something like 15 hours on a Saturday while keeping a count up in OOC channel of Courier spawns with no ring and I got to 42 before I gave up for the day.

RNG can hurt.
