When I started EQ way back when, manastones were already akin to Mickey Mantle cards. They no longer dropped, and I unfortunately never got enough platinum to buy one or even find one to be bought.

My questions: Where do manastones drop? Do they still drop? Is it a quest, if so what level and where does it start?

I've been searching for a day or two trying to find anything about how one would go about getting a manastone in EQ Classic, but so far my Googling has come up with nothing.

(I've only just started on the p99 server, and my highest char is 21 so I don't plan on getting one anytime soon but I'm curious as to where I'd start!)

They don't drop anymore, they used to drop in lower guk.

They sell for about 60-80,000pp here.

Why wouldn't FBSS drop? It was still dropping when I quit playing in like 2004.

When I was searching for info about the manastone quest I saw a few posts about the prices of manastones, and a mention about how expensive the FBSS was. I interpreted that as the FBSS was also taken out and rare, but I didn't read up on it.
