Welcome! Be sure to look at the guides on the wiki and google search “project 1999” + any question you have as you roll your char and start out. About every aspect of this game has been thoroughly discussed here.
For a truly classic experience with all the true dungeon crawls to acquire weapons and armor, you’ll find help if you join the guild <Auld Lang Syne>. A quick “/who auld” all will show you who is online. Lots of other good levelling guilds on the server as well that don’t follow the same strict rules of acquiring your own gear thru hunting, instead of buying from other players.

There's a loooooooot to learn! Iksar also take more exp to level up, but if you are okay with the grind, they do make fantastic characters.
If you ever make it to Antonica, feel free to send any of my characters a hail :).

The early levels will be frustrating. Stick it out. The classes start to come into their own post level 20ish.

This is very true. Most players don't tend to group much before level 20 either, as soloing is much faster on a twinked out alt. But don't be afraid to reach out! Many players will be happy to group up if you ask. And keep an eye out for <Auld Lang Syne> characters, as they're a non-twink guild and are always looking for people to play with.
And don't rush! It's a quick way to get burned out. Relax, embrace the grind, and enjoy your time. Hope to see you out there in Norrath :).

Yeeep, welcome to the game. It's fun and difficult. Soon you will think of WoW as kindergarten.

Hi there! Welcome to P99 and EQ. I too played WoW long before I wound up here.
This is a totally different ballgame. Its the ultimate grind. Be patient, the early levels will seem very boring. By 29 you'll be loving it.
Shaman is a fantastic class to play. You'll be wanted in groups and have the ability to solo as well. Start here: https://wiki.project1999.com/Shaman
Then move on to: https://wiki.project1999.com/Players:Adventure
I would read all of the shaman guides (minus Garfo's solo epic) and An Iksar's Guide To Love and Friendship Through Murder if you're dead set on Iksar.
https://wiki.project1999.com/Wisewolf%27s_Spell_Purchasing_Guide - a great guide for figuring out which spells need to be bought ASAP and which ones you can save your monies on.
Good luck! Reach out and talk to people in game...most of us like to help new players.

Thanks for the plug! We do enjoy the road less traveled! It’s a lot of fun and a player completely new to P99 would know no different. It takes the challenge up a notch!
Good luck and welcome to P99!
