I realize that a lot of you fine, upstanding, simple, unlearned, goblin-esque eq folk may not have access to such grand tomes of knowledge and lore, so I thought I'd share the wealth! While the RoK guide is full of misinformation and nonsense, as guides often are, it is also full of stories and pictures! A lot of the stories focus on in game npc's and they will either point you in the direction of some starter quests or they will give a silly story / backstory to a npc, which I guess modern games just, you know, do that stuff in game now. They usually start with something like, "Look for Boomba The Big in Freeport" and then they tell a story about him.

There is a third type of story though, designed to make you go, "oooo ahhhh!". Sometimes they give hints to the secret or out of the way areas of the game but basically they are trying to make you go explore! These are what I focused on today but I'm sure I'll share more in the future. Here are some of my favorites? or some of the interesting ones, I dunno, they seem to be focused on water of course.

There's also a lot of concept art, or maybe just artist's renderings of things in the game. So here ya go:

Cool page, what with the screenshot and the statues from Warsliks Woods, the indication that Dalnir does infact exist, good luck finding it

The portal things that lead to Sebilis and Howling Stones! They look a bit different in game

I don't know what this is supposed to be artwork of? Any ideas?

I absolutely loved reading this strategy guide over and over from cover to cover when I first got the game. That last picture looks like an artwork of the froglok town in Swamp of No Hope.

It was the best thing to read when the servers were down (which was far too often) :D

Veksar confirmed classic.

I fucking loved Veksar.

I honestly think a nerfed Veksar/SolC mini expansion would be cool af.

INB4 "muh classic mechanics" nerds who don't understand "classic feeling" is better.

Pretty solid find, the last pic seems like some legacy of ykesha concept or an unfinished idea in swamp of no hope

The last pic kind of reminds me of City of Mist

I bought this book on Amazon for $1 a year ago or so. Best bathroom reader since Mad Magazine.

Veksar? That wasn't a RoK dungeon.

It wasn’t in the RoK expansion, but it is on Kunark.

I started playing right as Kunark was released and I bought this book. I loved it.

Then one day, not all that long after I started playing I don't think, I received a parcel from Verant or some such. I don't remember whom exactly it was addressed from, but as I saw the package I knew that it was Official EverQuest. I was excited. I opened it, and all that was in there was this book. I have no explanation for it.

I've got the original vanilla EQ strategy guide at home. I'll try to remember to upload some images to add to this thread when I get home. I remember pouring over every page of that thing. All I really remember of it now though was in the section that explained how to exit the game (camping) they gave the example of a party member who wanted to leave because the newest episode of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer was on :D

From page 211 of the strategy guide:

"Strafing Workaround

There is no STRAFELEFT or STRAFERIGHT key in EverQuest. To be honest, you won’t find a lot of use for strafing since you select a target and start swinging. However, you can holddown the STRAFE key and use the TURNLEFT and TURNRIGHT keys to strafe in that direction."

Strafe keys aren't classic?

They just didn't have a pre-mapped binding for the keys.
