Like the title says, since I started a few weeks ago, I see somehow occasionally an NPC shouting Everyone HAil so and so wielder of soulfire.
In my newbieness I began to congratulate everyone via tell, but then I saw not all wielders were Paladins.
Is there something going on I am not aware of? :p
Just wondering haha

The slightly longer answer is that this is one of those "classic environment vs. classic knowledge" things: far less people on live knew that Soulfire could be used that way.
It's also one of those Blue vs. Live/Green things: because people here have had so many extra years to pimp their characters, they've got (comparatively) nothing better to do then pick up a Soulfire. On live (and presumably on Green) most players would be too busy working on their epic, or some other quest that was actually meant for their character, and then by the time they'd finished all of them there would be a new expansion with new quests to work on.

They put required levels on epics they should put required class on soulfire.

Ahhhh wow ... hmmm, yeah, a bit too out of the box thinking for my tastes but hey, to each their own :)
Hehe, guess I wont be "gratzing" more people before I check their classes :D
Guess you learn a new thing every day!
Many hugs from the Isthmus to all of you :)

Lots of out of the box thinking happens here since we were on Kunark for so long.
Two examples I can think of:
A guild killed Trakanon using nothing but earring clickies
You can use gravity flux to get up to certain areas in VP to have a relatively safe spot to rez/recover

I've been here for a minute but I still /tell WeilderOfSoulfire "HAIL!" every time I see it happen :B
Its one of those things that is technically classic, but totally not classic ;D
Like swarming on a bard during velious or before. Lots of people say "oh I used to do that" but they are lying lyers who lie. People weren't amassing soulfires either back then ;D

hehehe yea, I dont remember that being so common back in the day.
I still remember the first time I saw a paladin with epic and people were like lining up in EC back in the day on Povar to see the cool flaming sword.
It kinda cheapens the feeling of the game, but hey, guess it goes with the territory and server age and whatnot, and well, everybody plays EQ differently, and I respect that, but ... it still feels a bit "off"
But glad to know I discovered why everybody was getting a brand new soulfire every couple days:p

Yeah part of why I scrapped my paly was I didn’t feel like competing with neckbeards when trying to complete my own epic.

Once it gets nerfed to being clickable only when equipped, you'll see a lot less of these shout outs ;)

yeah, I get them keeping MQ in for classic reasons but damn that really ruins this game to an extent for casual players. can't compete with unemployed neckbeards =/

5 Charges of instant complete heal is a very powerful effect. Solo classes can use it as a pre-quest to adventures they wouldn't be able to handle without 5 complete heals. Raiders can quest for it to make themselves more useful during a raid and improve their guilds chances of success. If you spend a couple years playing on this server once you've achieved 60 you will probably end up doing this quest multiple times.

Soil fire isn't expendable, is it possible to make a depleted one to a young paladin? Or does the epic quest not work that way (too lazy to check).
