Daybreak Gaming has had it's assets seized by the United States government, as part of sanctions against Russia. All of their bank accounts are frozen.

They have immediately began laying off ALL of their staff.

They are also desperately looking for a buyer for their company.

P99, will you be the champion the Everquest world needs right now?

Or will you lie on your FE app to get into a static

Never lied on any application. I even went to the Faceless website, just to see what you could possibly be talking about, and my application isn't viewable to the public/me. So if you'd like to share it, and point out whatever it is I "Lied" about, I'd love to see it.

Only been in two statics in my entire EQ career, and formed them both myself.

The GM's will have to work overtime banning a large majority of them for RMT because majority of live is just krono farming trash anyway

Some article highlights...

Feldon of EQWire reports anonymous sources quoting up to 100 people let go. (One of our sources believes it’s closer to 70)
government sanctions
The company does not address the abrupt departure of its former VP/Chief Publishing Officer yesterday morning. It also does not explain why it represented to its customers and the media that Columbus Nova had acquired it for the last three years, nor why it waited until April 2018 to correct the record.
Daybreak has now confirmed the layoffs.
A Daybreak spokesperson has confirmed that the layoffs were not isolated to one studio (as speculation is currently running). According to the spokesperson, all of Daybreak’s studios were affected, but none of the games will be – that includes H1Z1, whose PC development and recently announced PS4 port is still scheduled to continue.
The PlanetSide 2 team says on Reddit that it has been unaffected by the layoffs.
We’ve been told that most or all of the Just Survive team was let go and the game is unlikely to see updates in the future – this apparently per developers on Discord.

Planetside 2's microtransactions ruined it anyway. H1Z1 is a dead IP at this point anyway with PUBG/Fortnite around. I don't see them being able to continue without selling some IPs off lol.

Maybe another EQ progression server will attract enough P2W nerds? :o

And what would happen to Project 1999 if Daybreak Games sold the EverQuest IP to Electronic Arts and they in turn send a cease and desist notice to Rogean and company? Or EA decides to "absorb" P99 into their pool of (dead) studios and decide to push the EA way of gaming?

"Congratulations! You just killed this kicking snake! Here are your choices:

$0.25 to collect a snake skin.
$0.10 to collect a snake egg.
Free to collect nothing from the corpse.

Please enter your choice and make sure your account can afford it!"

Total speculation, of course.

Would it stop at P99? Would they bring down all EQemulator.org servers?

I don't see what harm 1000-2000 nerds do on a private emulator is doing to a big company. How much more likely are you to jump to Corporation X's servers after they shut P99 down? I'd just wait for Pantheon, 1001 other games out there in the meantime.

They have been hard at work deleting any mention of this on their official forums as well. Pretty sad state of affairs.

Yeah I would be more concerned about what whoever acquires the rights to this game will do about this server.

If I was wealthy, I'd buy the license in a second.

You'd all have EQ 3 in 4 years time too, with more "old school" MMO standards like classic does, a real MMO world to explore and not a theme park of modern MMO's.

I'd also give P99 a longer leash too, if thats possible

Oh, please, that's totally unrealistic.

It'd be $5.00 for a loot box that would contain, at random, a snake skin, a snake egg, or nothing.

Chief among these suspicious financial transactions are approximately $500,000 in payments received from Mr. Viktor Vekselberg, a Russian oligarch with an estimated net worth of nearly $13 billion. Mr. Vekselberg and his cousin Mr. Andrew Intrater routed eight payments to Mr. Cohen through a company named Columbus Nova LLC ("Columbus") beginning in January 2017 and continuing until at least August 2017.

Whoever buys up Daybreak will soon come after P99 and any/all other private servers for their intellectual property.

A similar thing happened with Asheron's Call. Turbine pulled the plug on development, parent company (WB) let the servers stay up for about a year, and then shut it down due to negative revenue.

A big private server effort was started, and the leader of the project received a C&D from WB's IP legal team.

Now there's just a couple servers with maybe 10 people each holding onto their precious little nugget of non-retail nostalgia.

Okay I think this is doable. I've put together a crowdfunding campaign to buy the EverQuest IP from Daybreak. I think with the right management this game is far from dead and still has some legs in it <3
