Gathering the plat required for some big ticket items seem like a mountain to climb. Got any rags to riches stories?

If I could turn back time to the hour before I read your tale of derring-do, so I could read it again, I would.

I do like this, though even still - looks like Everest with no supporting oxygen.

I guess the equation is just time = plat. No way around it. But jeez, that's a lot of time.

I mean I understand all of this. I guess I can't fathom the amount of time it would take to amass that amount of plat via these paths. But then, this server is pretty old, and as in RL, wealth begets wealth.

Back to the grind lol.

Be in the game when account trading was legal, old mechanics existed, and velious raid gear didn't overshadow so much of the stuff you can solo farm.

Also, Loramin gotta update that treasure hunting guide. Many / most of the top lvl items in it have horribly out of date prices lol.

When I was leveling on my druid in Upper Guk way back in ancient times, the froglok shin lord happened to be up. A high level paladin who already had the sword /shouted 'Hey, the Shin Lord is up with the sword, I am going to pull it and kill it for your group, you can have the loot'. Which he did, my group /random'd the Ghoulbane and I won!

I sold it for around 1K plat and outfitted myself with full platinum jewelry and Runed Mithril bracers thusly beginning my P99 bank roll.

Thanks again to whoever that was!

I was a relatively poor level 54 cleric (first char on the server back in 2013), discovered chardok AoE, used chardok aoe plat to get my cleric to 60 and buy a Donal's BP (prenerf) and Manastone (Thanks Tecmos!) so I could duo the world, and the rest is history.

Buy items for under market value, resell them for above market value... kind of like Cryptocurrency trading without the volitility.

Easiest way to make money is a time machine. Most of the plat millionaires started before they took out the cool stuff. Like, farm 2 holgresh elder beads 3 years ago. Now sell them today for 500k each.

If they were smart they would have camped more profitable items and bought beads 7-8 beads for sub 20k like I did. I won't be selling them anytime soon.

It's a bad idea to try to catch up at this point. Set some reasonable goals for yourself and don't let them move. When you're done log off for a year or so. If you want to play again in a year, then set some new goals and repeat.

Gathering the plat required for some big ticket items seem like a mountain to climb. Got any rags to riches stories?

I played blue for 3 months back in 2011 and made over 50k in plat & gear, with only getting my main to 12th lvl. An erudite paladin named Elendil. In the end, I gave it all away.

You often need money in order to make money, so the initial 1,000 plat was the hardest to make. Bone chips was the ticket for me, just to make a couple hundred plat... I then invested that into Tradeskills. Blacksmithing was the 1st money maker, banded armor for 1pp per AC was a consistent seller. But once I got my tailoring to 88 skill (handmade backpack trivial) I didn't even waste my time on smithing anymore. Hand made backpacks would sell for 50p each easy and fast. At first I would farm my own HQ bear skins, but then demand outweighed my supply, so I had to start buying them directly from noobs at 20p each. Still an instant profit machine.

I did that well past my initial 1,000 plat mark, until I found a new money maker. Vendor Shopping. You see, people sell all kinds of shit to vendors. Some things end up being zero investment risk to buy it directly from the vendor and flip at a higher price. Bone Chips... you buy it for 1s 5c, you can sell it for 1s, 5c. So even by some god awful chance they never sold... you never lose money. But that's just the bottom of the totem pole, you used to be able to find everything... tradeskill materials, rare gems, magic armor etc. Gems hold MOST of their value, Kunark-class specific gear holds MOST of it's value. I would buy Cobalt boots for example for 332p off a vendor, and resell it for 1k. Most of the time I would auction the gear without buying it first... then if someone was interested, i would buy it off the vendor and flip it to them.

Anyways, was fun... but time consuming. Was constantly running around checking vendors...in retrospect I should have made a port class to make my life easier.

Someone made a video of me giving away all my shit.

Started my first toon when Velious first launched. I was like lvl 35 on my SK 1 month in. Met a bunch of cool peeps in befallen and I'd go there every now and then to reminisce how hard that damn zone was w/o gear. Had a full group w/ 1 druid healing who died 7x in a row (rip) and ran back each time from Rivervale.. lmao.

Eventually I found out about Reapers of the dead. Sold them for 1K (upwards to 1.2k) to raiders. Bought a Noct blade for 3k , Atra shield 3K, and some miscellaneous gear. Lvled up to 51 as fast as I could w/ my RL friend. We wanted to farm elder beads which resulted in deaths.. those monkeys were hard AF so we had to kite them. Never saw one drop, but we had the camp a few times(unbelievable right?)

I ended saying F camping em and sold more reapers...eventually saved 20K and bought 1 pair of beads. The following day I won a T staff in KC. Holy shit I sold that for 30k ASAP and bought another pair of beads for 19K.

Traded one of my beads to get Soul leech MQ and finished mah epic(no regrets) at lvl 57..the dream :) . Still got the other pair of holgresh beads to this day.

^this. Anyone that started in the last couple years is at a huge disadvantage. Even outside of nerfed items like HEB's, rare drops that are basically the same difficulty to farm as they were 3+ years ago are now worth 1/8 the price if not much less.

Plus for classes like mages that couldn't farm high level dungeons, they could farm plat at Seafuries. Now what do mages do for plat? Never leave ToV and sell COTHs to POM?

Stories like this make me mad I didn't have the foresight to log in for 20 mins and move money into beads -- I assumed I'd never log back into EQ again =)

That said, I still have a hard time understanding why these things sell for nearly as much as a manastone.

Never been rich in this game. At one point I managed to win 2 hiero cloaks in 2 days in seb crypt, back when they were worth about 60k. I used one and I gave the second one to a friend. To this day he never paid me back for it like he said he would. Craby, if you still play, you owe me 60k .

I did also buy an account at one point that I planned to level as an alt then flip -- then account selling got banned. Now I have a random 35 warrior account forever that I will never actually do anything with.

I made my starter money by leveling a magician to 50 in 2009/2010, then selling it for plat (which was legal at the time). I think I got 150k, and periodically would flip items for 5 years til I quit to stay flush.

To make a lot of money on p99 blue you don't need to start in 2009 or devote your life to EQ.

You just need some basic computer skills to parse EC tunnel logs.

You're welcome.

The big draw of HS was the chance of fingerbone hoop in South. Its worth 7k now as opposed to 21k in kunark.

This except hoops are still around 10-13k

I've been farming HS for way too long now and fingerbone hoops are the best seller by far. Necklace of Superiority sells well enough for around 10k. Helot skull helms are seemingly hard to move despite being a totally awesome and useful item. Runed morning star sells horribly , bout to lower my price to 1k since I have like 10 now. Sash of the dragonborn dropped in value a lot recently. ES boots sell for 1.5 to 2k regularly. Addy clubs are something I don't come across often because farming west and north isn't something I do anymore since people xp in those wings, but I imagine most monks want the club so it will move for sure.

Hs isn't quite the plat pinata it used to be but it's my favorite zone in the game so I'm Gunna spend most of my time there regardless besides maybe a chottal snipe or something. Crazy how often you can catch him sitting up tbh
