Hey all. I haven’t asked any of the end game rangers in game to find this out, but I was curious how good ranger dps with high end archery vs melee compares. Obviously true shot discipline and high end bows/ arrows will factor into this. So I wanted to ask the community for their thoughts.
I am guessing melee is better since I never see any rangers try to bow down a dragon

Archery hits a hard cap because monsters start summoning you at level 52, effectively ruining your attempt to keep distance and pew pew them

But let’s say there is a tank with sufficient agro to not worry about this concern. How would the dps compare to melee?

I know that Auld Lang Syne relies heavily on their rangers for sustained bow damage on isle 5 raid bosses.
Bow DPS is as good as you can get it. It's the same as melee, you understand? Look at your ratios and your haste and that will give you an answer whether you'll do better DPS at range vs melee.

Trueshot + Standing Still + Good bow (30+ dmg) + Crafted Arrows (5+ dmg) + Fleeting Quiver + VoG + 40%+ worn haste = comparable dps to end game melee
Other than that, get your epics and a fast primary and you'll probably be better off. Rangers have always been gear dependent. Bowquesting is the epitome of that.

Archery is good enough to use in order to avoid point blank AoE mobs. Some mobs you can even out range fear.
Generally it is better to poke mobs toes though, I suppose.

Not all do, I believe Ice Burrowers, possibly amongst others, don't?

Yeah there are some exceptions to the rule. But generally (like 99.9% of the time) stuff starts summoning at level 51.

Rangers can out range AoE's, melee is still easier for better dps sadly. Luclin changes it all but we are forever broken with Velious.
So ratio or dmg for trueshot disc? Some say faster is better like monk main hand epic fist vs other weapon ratio and some say more dmg and some say best ratio for trueshot, which one is best? 30/37 - 20/30 - 13/22 ?

Since Trueshot is a timed discipline you are probably better off burning through arrows faster getting the more damage during the disc. Than going from the occasional big shot.
I wouldn't use windstriker for it though it might be fun to see the crits with that slow beast.

True shot should be a straight up multiplier, though for a period on live it actually completely a swapped out the bows DMG stat, during which time faster was better. That last bit maybe pertinent to gearing rangers on a new project server.
