Other than just dong it, what's the point of fishing?

I have taken up fishing on some of my characters but just to pass time while regening or waiting for a boat.
Other than that, what's the point of it?

But for real, I think fish are probably used in baking? yeah? If you fish for your own food you never gotta buy food, same goes for fish scales if you wanna cast enduring breath. You could fish for RP reasons? Perhaps you wanna surpass Bait Masterson and become the greatest Master Baitor in all the lands?! The game is really what you make of it, trust me I am a pro

Other than baking random crappy food, there is exactly one use for fishing that I know of: http://wiki.project1999.com/Cobalt_Cod. That cod is used to make http://wiki.project1999.com/Cod_Oil, which in turn is used to make http://wiki.project1999.com/Arctic_Wyvern_Armor, which is cheap halfway-decent tradeskill-made Shaman armor.

But other than that and player events (and future quests that P99 will never see) I don't think there's anything useful you can do with fishing.

You can fish up cards in POM as one way to get your deck of spontaneous generation. But it's generally a poor option compared to the other one of just killing one mob to loot him.
