Got my rogue to 51 and have started doing the parts for the epic and am currently at the part where I need to get the book. I'm not part of a large guild that can go into hate to clear and I don't know of anyone to tag along with. So my plan is to give the wizzy a Ec cap and take one myself and get as many buffs as i can muster, get invis/ivu cast on me as im porting up then sneak/hide on zone in. Has anyone actually done it this way or am I wasting my time? I figured I would sneak as far as I can until I get seen then attempt a rush on the book and gate out. Any advice would be great.

Scratch this post. I have an answer. It is doable and done incase any other rogues are curious. I might have gotten lucky but with pure butt pucker power I got to the book and gated out. Naked book run done. Just the general and the quill left now! Good luck other rogues who are curious!

So what exactly did you do?

I did what I was asking about. To be more descriptive I secured two WC raider skullcaps, kept one, gave the other to the wizard. I then banked all my gear except the cap. Had some friends buff me with resists then hp buffs and sow near the end and topped it off with invis vs undead and regular invis. We ported to hate and right away hit sneak and hide. Wizzy capped out. I then crawled my way to the book. I'm pretty sure my arteries are super clean after grabbing the book and capping back to wc. Really makes you feel like a rogue. I didn't have to pass any see invis mobs. Might have been super lucky but I don't know.

Good stuff man. I do feel like sneak/hide + invis + IVU will make you not aggro anything, at least on the first floor. I did something similar during a hate raid not that long ago. Invis wore off but not IVU, I was still able to get the book and not train the raid though.

Since you'll generally need a wiz to port you up, you can ask him to TL you as well. TL box lasts a few minutes and you can use that to instantly get the hell out! I used to love doing stuff like that on my wiz before they nerfed TL and you could no longer cast it on yourself.

Good job! I also got my Book of Souls this way. I had to try three times, as I got caught on zone in once, and got caught by one of mobs that can see hide/IVU once.

It's doable, but you usually won't manage to avoid port in aggro. And if you aren't familiar with the zone, or P99's particular quirks, or the zone happens to spawn banshees in the wrong spots, or Innoruuk is up, or you get too close to a wall/ceiling and aggro something on the other side, you're gonna have a bad time.
I strongly recommend against solo runs for most players.

Solo runs on P99's hate are not well advised. Our PoH isn't and never will be coded right for this. That said, it's doable. I would, however, like to hear your contingency plan for retrieving the full geared wizard corpse you're likely leaving at port in. Raider caps are a good idea. You can also die before you load in. Your best bet besides tagging along with a raid like you should be doing is having both go up naked and expecting to die. Seriously.. go with a raid.
Agreed. I'd rather run backwards through a razor blade forest naked than try to solo this.
If you go with a raid, it's one of the easiest parts of the quest, rather than being one of the hardest if you try to solo it.
I always dread doing corpse drags in PoH. A lot of people seem to think Rogues are fine to sneak around up there. Nope. It's dangerous.
To be fair, only the banshee and lich see Rogues, but those things are everywhere

When I did this, we both died and ported up naked, then were rezzed back after book retrieval. Wizard did die and eat XP loss before being able to gate 2/3 of the times, however, but there wasn't a corpse run. WC cap would have likely been enough to prevent that, but I didn't get one as I was expecting the wizard to be rezzed back down as a form of instant-porting (timing on zone loading was not precise enough for that plan to work, hence the gating/dying).
Regardless, the whole expense for my run was 700 platinum plus three people's time for an hour, which isn't exactly a crippling cost. The two unrezzed deaths were a bigger deal, but also not that problematic in the grand scheme of things. It was also one of the most heartpoundingly fun experiences I've had playing EQ, and it did really give a pretty cool Roguey feeling. If you're not guilded or your guild can't do hate and don't want to beg people to follow along on their raids, its not that bad an option all things considered.
EDIT: Also, remember nothing sees sneak, just hide. Back arc is always safe.

I recently had to do this again for my High elf mask. I went up with a raid but another rogue had already snagged the book. Ended up just camping out next to the book. Logged back in some hours later, picked it up, and WC cap'd out no problem.
