Swim Skill

I haven't gained a single point of swim skill since the most recent patch. Considering I've been swimming around Lake Rathetear the past 2 days, you'd think my skill would move higher than 31.

Edit: Cause It may be pertinent. My char level has been between 19-21 while doing this, so my swim should be no where near capped.

I also noticed that when I swam across lake rathe (with 3 skill) that I didn't get a single skill up, I thought I just got really unlucky. Has anyone gotten a skill up anywhere with Swimming since the patch?

Actually yes I have. I noticed that I only get it while constantly strafing instead of just swimming forward.

I seemed to get skillups more often while turning. I was practicing swimming in circles in lower guk on a lvl 19 wizard. I don't remember if it's possible to get more than 100 swimming at that level.

Insofar as I recall (read as "I have no fucking idea but i'll chime in anyways") swimming was limited to 5 pts a lvl so your max should be 95 no?

I too have crossed Lake Rathe and had no swimming skill-ups. This occurred for two mid level characters with swimming skills near the 50s I believe.

Here is one for you that has to do with swimming, running across the ice in Everfrost grants skill up's. I picked up 6 points in less then 1 min doing it 4 days ago.

I cannot for the life of me get a swim skill up anywhere. Can't get it spinning, strafing, sitting in the water. Haven't tried running across ice, but you shouldn't be getting skillups for that anyways.

it's really annoying, especially if you fall off the boat in OoT and have to go uber slow with no hope of speeding up due to skill gains.

You don't get skillups while swimming in a straight line. If you're just out for skillups, swim in circles.

I am also having issues with swim skill not increasing. I'm lvl 29 and my skill is stuck at 80. I have tried swimming in circles, strafing, walking on ice, as well as swimming along the top and bottom of multiple bodies of water.

swimming in circles is not working. Is it something that could only be affecting certain characters? It's very annoying being stuck at 31 swim skill on a lvl 30 character (im a gnome necro).

You don't get skillups while swimming in a straight line. If you're just out for skillups, swim in circles.

Couple of questions:
1. Is the quoted passage the intended P1999 behavior or a statement of current behavior?

2. Is this a recent change? I remember swimming the length of West Karana river at low levels to gain skillups on P1999. The West Karana swimming worked a couple of weeks ago but did not appear to work as of last Thursday/Friday. The methodology was the same in both cases: Aim yourself in a direction that will keep you in the river a long while and hit autorun. Caveat: Swimming against a zone line, not parallel to it, could produce behavior that looks like strafe swimming to the server, and could be the cause of the skillups.

3. Swimming against a corner (example: butcherblock docks) also produced skillups on P1999 as recently as a few weeks ago. Does this behavior count as swimming in a straight line?

It does seem broken since recently. I quickly maxed out my druid's swim skill by taping down my 'turn left' key while autorunning under the freeport caster guild a few weeks ago, causing me to swim in circles. Tried doing that with my rogue for half an hour today and it didn't raise at all. Skill is still at level 2, which is what I trained it to on a trainer awhile back. I also spent about 2 character levels fighting crocs at oasis while swimming around in random strafing/turning patterns between pulls and it didn't increase one bit.

That is a lot of swimming for it to not go from 2->3. Something definitely seems wrong.

Just to add my experience.
Lvl 50 - actual swim skill 71 (about 50 gained by swimming).

Just spent 40 mins in Dagnors Cauldron, swimming in any way and any direction while waiting for friends.
Zoned in KK. gone to phinny, came back, checked a couple of rooms, about 25 more mins.

Zero points gain.

Yes this is broken, have 3 chars with 200 skill, and cant gain a single point on my wizard now after the resent patches.

Same experience, it seems broken recently. I've been swimming around OOT lately. I'm lvl 39 with about 70 skill in swimming. Haven't gotten a skill up in more than a week. Prior to that it was going up pretty regularly.

Been broken for everyone else in all the groups I've been in recently. Nobody has gotten any skillups at all. This definitely doesn't seem isolated to a few people/areas/situations.

swimming skill ups worked on live 3/25, but hasn't skilled up for me on 3/27 swimming the entire length of wk - strafing, circles, underwater, nothing. Anyone else experiencing the same?

I just got up to 4 (first time Ive been able to raise in 32 levels), but I would like conformation on this swimming in circles thing cause it wasnt that way on this server before and it def isn't classic.

What do you mean?

Perhaps not a huge bug but since last patch you can raise swimming by just running in shallow water, as long your feet touches water the skill is being raised.

Only getting 1 skill up an hour at times.
