I believe that it always has been a cleric. Because it has to teach you about spells and stuff...

I remember doing the same, although when I came to a certain part in the tutorial it always just crashed on me. I think it involved climbing a ladder and then killing a necromancer or something, hard to recall now but I kept on messing around with it during downtime anyway. Good times!

My buddy and I were reminiscing maybe 3-4 years ago about old school EQ, and I mentioned the tutorial character's name "Soandso" obviously pronouncing it "So and so". He looked at me, bewildered, and goes "for 7 years I thought his name was Sow-awnd-so.."

I remember when I (my parents) bought the game back then, I didnt have internet. It took me 6 months of begging my parents to get dial up. I knew that tutorial like the back of my hand cuz I played it so much. I was like 13 or 14 at the time =P

great find, i was trying to explain to my wife what it was like way back when the screen was like is in the tutorial where when you meditate you cant see ANYTHING. i remember being left in cazic thule like 100 times by my group at 4c because i would be med'ing and the group would move to the next corner. lol
