Well the time has finally come I think to quit my bard and go for a necro.

I have about 50k to spend, any essential gearing needed? Contrary to popular belief; I don’t really see the value of a pre nerf COS for 12k in 99% of situations. I have the money but doesn’t mean I need it. A 5 second invis without taking up a spell slot still sounds sweet. Not sure if the fear staff is really worth it either. Just wanted to get peoples thoughts on how they would spend that money. Wish I could afford zlandicars heart!

Prenerf Cos will allow you to move through dungeons that have mixes of undead and living with easy. It's also an instant charm breaker which is important down the line in HS. Fear staff...I'd skip it. Boots MQ would be very useful as well. Outside of that, a clicky to reset spell global cool down times and dump the rest into cheap int/hp gear. That will carry you to 60.

Since you can't afford Zlandi heart I recommend the below (note nothing for necro is essential outside pre-nerf CoS/rings listed below, rest is what I'd buy based on my 60 necro:

1) Prenerf CoS - nothing beats instant cast invis, can re-click while running through dungeons instantly and for breaking charms I'd pay the extra 5-6k for it over a gobby ring. I'd buy no item in the game for necro convenience leveling and at 60 over pre-nerf CoS.
2) 6/65 rings, the extra hps are awesome
3) Jboots
4)15/15 hp/Mana bracers are plenty good
5) Earring of Essence & 35/25 hp/Mana ear
6) Coldain gloves/boots
7) Froglok bonecaster robe
8) Anything else for remaining slots with focus on hp/Mana and maybe a little bit of intellect for when you get 50+

Lastly unless you're heavily invested in a specific races Fashionquest go Iksar.

Stack hp/mana gears, get a velium crystal staff and tolapumj robe for the 36% haste and face tank mobs till they start hitting too hard to use this method.

It's fun and very efficient with your life tapping dot and pure life taps, you can maintain your hps very easily when you have a large HP pool to take melee hits.

I did this on my necro to 30 lvl before I quit the necro, but I imagine if you wanted you could do this for even longer.

Once mobs start hitting too hard for you to face tank, obviously you will need to start changing out stuff for INT gears, but try to keep some HP gears on as it pays to have a nice health pool as a necro.

I found it very easy to find HP gears for necro, you really don't have to pour a lot of plats into gears.

The good thing with the velium crystal staff is once you outgrow it, you will get 9-10k out of it as they seem to hold value fairly well. Remember it also procs at level one.

Interesting idea. How am I not seeing more monks DWing 2 of these? Seems hella op.

Over time I got bored and so I started trying unconventional gearing setups on classes for the hell of it and this one worked really well. I was surprised.

To tell you how much I enjoyed it, I actually tried to find as many HP + DEX items I could to maximize the staffs procs.

Another thing you will find is you really won't get much out of INT gears till 30ish anyway so it benefits you to use pure mana items if you choosing between INT or mana items.

Because SoS and addy club are cheaper and end up being better DPS.

I leveled my necromancer with a Toji robe, Z heart, HP rings, couple of cheap books, and literally nothing else. Hunted for my own upgrades throughout the journey (currently 59) and I actually have pretty legit gear now. 46+ you start getting the good No Drop stuff anyways.

Save some money for your higher end spells, probably need about 20k in your "spell fund" and you will be all set for the journey 50-60

Save 4k to buy a stack of EE's for when you enter CoM/HS charm levels and can 93% rez yourself (lvl 53)

Save 2k for a stack of Tiny Inlaid Coffins (57) and maybe 1k for 5 Jade Inlaid Coffins (39)

Fear staff is nearly completely useless, avoid at all costs and save the bag space

Toji robe is very nice for low level due to the haste and you can save it for high end charming if you feel like gambling a 3k robe on a charm pet (people do this, but I don't think I would because I don't want a 100% hasted and weaponized pet coming for me on a break). Either way this robe is nice to have

CoS is probably the best item you will ever own. The insta click charm break plus the ability to FD and instantly invis makes you quite formidable in dungeons. I can get around on my necro almost better than with my monk TBH

Jboots benefit the Necromancer greatly. However one of the fun things you can do is camp it yourself since Necro can solo so well. Line it up for mid 40s and you can XP and camp the item at the same time.

Zlandi heart is really nice but its hardly game changing. On an Iskar the extra regen makes Lich a non factor but quite honestly its a non factor anyways due to how powerful our tapping is at high levels. It's not worth 160k (I had one and sold it because I was not that attached to it)

The Velious pants are a MUST HAVE. Being able to haste your pets with a clicky and not using huge amounts of mana is so nice I can not describe it. Its not the max haste you will have available (55% vs 65%) but the convenience is absolutely outstanding. If you can sneak into a PoG raid make sure you get these https://wiki.project1999.com/Pantaloons_of_the_Bonecaster

TLDR: Velious pants, CoS, Stack HPs - everything else is optional

Fear staff was only useful farming seafuries with a rogue pet. Could probably still use to do hill giants.

I remember when I got my pre nerf cos on my old necro way back when. I don't remember what I paid for it, but I just couldn't see it being that valuable until I had it for for a little while. It became my most prized possession by far. I remember spending a lot of time in a dungeon with a mix of live and undead mobs. Veksar I think. Between my cos and an AA undead invis skill that was insta cast I could move around in there very easily. I recommend a pre nerf cos highly. A definite must have item.

dude, buy a pre-nerf CoS.

you don't need anything else; necros are insanely overpowered.

You should get a COS just for fun if you got extra plats. It's a fun toy besides being extremely useful for all the things others have noted. :)

I thought as you did, tried a post nerf COS and ended up re-buying a prenerf COS.
