View Full Version : Miscellaneous: Text should indent when wrapping to another line (8/9/2000 change)

Description:
In the 8/9/2000 patch all text that wrapped in your chat window became indented after the first line, helping you to better interpret information. Text also had a different 'starting point' in the chat box before and after this patch (compared to current p99 chat box).

Relevant NPCs:

Relevant LOCs:

Steps to reproduce bug:

Type a very long string that wraps to the next line in your chat window.
Type wraps with no indentation on subsequent lines.

Expected behavior:
-Before 8/9/2000 should just go to the next line with no indentation. I believe in 'transparency mode' all text in your chatbox should also shift over a large margin (it was compensating for the classic UI background pattern). I'm not 100% positive if it shifted after the patch as well, but couldn't locate when it occurred via notes.

-After 8/9/2000 patch should indent subsequent lines. It also appears your text is no longer shifted over heavily in the chat box in 'transparency mode'. It still has a minor shift though.

Evidence/Research:

Text messages that wrap will be indented on subsequent lines. This means that if a person or NPC says something that is more than one line long, all subsequent lines will be indented a few spaces. This should make it a lot easier to pick out separate messages.

Note that below screenshots will show that not just what people 'say' will wrap, but all text (such as consider messages).

Relevant screenshots:
How P99 looks today, notice quest text in lower left not wrapping. The text is also touching the left edge of the text box, should at this point shift over at least the width of one character.

Hopefully not a client issue. Nothing game breaking or necessary, but adds a little classic spice. Maybe will catch the eye of Secrets or Telin.

Isnt that fully configurable by UI and options?

To my knowledge it was not an option to disable indent or align your text in the box, I did not see a section in the .ini for it from some old notes. I'm referring to the Default UI however, and how it should be in classic (not titanium UI features). Someone with access to an older client can correct me if I'm mistaken.

I never have done any custom UI's, either during Velious on Live or on P99, so can't speak to that. I am just referring to the Default UI settings.

Definitely a client issue (+1 to the insurmountable list of non-classic Titanium stuff), but yeah if/when Secrets is able to make the Trilogy client fully compatible with P99 this could be a thing.
