View Full Version : Melee Fingers - Djarns Ring vs. Velium Fire

So I've actually talked this through with a few people. I've seen some monks say they prefer the Velium Fire Wedding Ring to Djarns. I've seen some classes that are more likely to eat AEs, non-tanks prefer Djarns. I've also seen everything in between.

Velium Fire Wedding Ring
Slot: FINGER
AC: 6
HP: +65
WT: 0.1 Size: TINY
Class: ALL
Race: ALL

vs.

Djarns Amethyst Ring
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM
Slot: FINGER
AGI: +9 HP: +80
WT: 0.1 Size: TINY
Class: ALL
Race: ALL

So what do you choose and why!?

Djarn's is objectively better in every way unless you're somehow also AGI capped? It gives more hp and still gives some AC. Only difference is about 7000 plat.

Djarns plus one wedding ring is the most sensible choice instead of two wedding rings, unless roleplaying as a polygamist somehow ups your immersion.

Given the price difference between the two?

I'd take Velium fire any day of the week unless I *needed* the extra agi to be over the 75 mark or were stupidly wealthy.

6ac vs 15hp and questionably worthless agility? No thanks.

I use 9th Ring + Djarns on 2 chars was wondering if I should go to Velium on one of them. Thinking maybe I will.

Kill a thousand mobs with each and let us know which parses better!

This just seems like yet another thread on which is more valuable, AC or HP (I mean unless you have insanely low Agility and somehow get more AC from Djarns.)

But since it is, I might as well ask a stupid question. As a shaman who isn't up to speed on this stuff I know AC is generally regarded as inferior on P99, but even so is it really as bad as Caiu puts it (Copper vs. Platinum)? Should I give up my dream of someday acquiring those insanely high AC boots from Mischief?

DJaren't that amazing. 6 65s were super popular on magelo profiles from this era. I'd only wear a DJ Arnn ring only if you get it for free. 15 hp simply isn't worth thousands of plat.

I disagree. There is a massive amount of plat on this server, the plat is what isn't worth much.

15 hp isn't gonna save you from nuffin.

it will save you from 14 points of damage, to be precise.

As a Tank i can say you are wrong that 15hp has saved me countless times when ch is late and im sitting there 1%<

I like to make my characters functional, not ultra-nerd optimized. 6ac 65hp is functional and cost efficient. 9agi and 80 hp might be optimal for those countless, extremely rare times you're knocked out and not actually killed. I highly doubt anyone would notice a difference in game play between the two and if you can't tell the difference save money and get the good enough item.

Personally, I wear a 10th and a +13 SVM most of the time with my DJ bagged. HP doesn't matter that much.

Need to get 9th + 10th lose 4 MR but gain 9ac, 9 str, 9 sta, 50 hp!!

9+10 is really the answer to this answer to this thread. Equals 19.

15 hp isn't gonna save you from nuffin.

This is the wrong philosophy. The idea isn't that Djarn's has 15 HP over a 6/65. If you applied the same emphasis to all your gear, you would have a few hundred extra HP, not just 15.

You're talking to someone who thinks 6k is some unobtainable sum(lazy). Not sure logic is the right approach!

Logic is absolutely not the right approach to deal with me. Emotional arguments are stronger! I could buy 50 djarnns right now and another 45 with an item sale. I'm guessing most people can't do that and also taking a leap to suggest that someone who needs gear advice might not be swimming in platinum. 6 65s are much cheaper and nearly the same. That makes sense to me.

I finally decided where I come out on this. In the event you ever needed to switch a 6 ac 65 hp ring for a +14 MR ring then it's hard to tell which is which and annoying. Therefore, I'm going Djarns baby Djarns all the way!!

Haha, that was my deciding factor too. Hate having two rings with the same graphic in inventory.

Djarn, because the stats were better.

Djarn's is one of the highest "price:difficulty-to-camp" ratios in the game. You are paying a premium price for a fairly common drop off an old world mob.

At this point, the objective answer is yes --- djarn's is still very good. It is better than the player crafted rings most folks wear.

If you are a new player and have to save plat to buy this there are probably better value items you should be buying before this. For many non-twinks by the time it is worth it to upgrade their ring to a djarn's they could acquire it without paying the price.
