View Full Version : Bring Back TL Boxes outside ToV

I understand nerfing Self TL Boxes inside ToV serves a purpose but it has decimated the functionality of a Wizard in game. I use to be able to do technical things such as park unwanted constructs in DN with a entrance bind and TL box up. Pull rats from the maze in PoM through wall to the yard in order to quad... Amazing experience! Attempt perilous beast across Norrath with the safety net of a TL box on my cursor. Being a Wizard is one of the least played classes already in game but now their functionality has suffered greatly. Please reconsider bringing back this mechanic, at least outside ToV. Wizards deserve it.

Wizards in classic Velious are awful. Welcome to a timelocked Velious server. If you'd like to be useful on this server I suggest you reroll a Rogue, Monk or Cleric.
If you want wizards to be useful I suggest you play another version of EQ where they get instant cast ports, critical Nukes, stacking FT and focus effects.
Or just enjoy being the only class that can deal 2000 unresistable damage to a single mob for the low low price of 21 platinum per cast, and running OOM before most dragons die which drops your DPS to 0.
Also, I feel I should include the obligatory - Not Classic.
Dald.. This is Scifer and I want to fight you.

To be fair, my answer fixes 2 / 3 of the situations you described. So, I feel justified since I just answered 66% of your worries.

You know, it's funny, re-reading all the dev interviews and responses from in era... the wizard community was constantly asking for upgrades, complaining that they are imbalanced.
Every time, devs would come back with a response that wizards were analyzed and fit quite well in the world of Everquest. They actually argued that having access to ports offset any warrant to increase their damage / sustained DPS.
Interestingly, Lawrence Poe was working on a series of 'Anchor' spells for the wizard that were supposed to launch in Velious. Essentially, it would prevent a mob from gating. There was going to be like 3 in the series as you leveled.
It would take 2 wizards using it to guarantee functionality on very high level mobs, but regular trash would only need 1 wizard. The only area they felt the wizard were lacking was being wanted by groups, and these anchor series was going to be their answer.
Would be interesting custom P99 content if this ever rolls out. Could have a slight bit of group utility in some dungeons (DN, Seb, PoH, etc) and definite raid utility if zoneline pulling dragons is still a thing.
I've no idea if this spell idea was ever added later or just got scrapped completely.

Well you actually fixed 0 problems since the problem is not being able to TL myself. Gate pots fizzle and At 1k a pop no thanks.

they get instant cast ports,
wizards should be able to equip plate
Plane of Sky, the greatest raid zone in all of EQ, answers both of these questions.

It sure was, in the form of an AA with 3 ranks:

It does not TP to bind... You're missing the point of the thread if you suggest clickies as the solution to a lost mechanic.

TL boxes only exist so that wizards couldn't randomly blast groupmates to their bind points. They were never intended to be left open while running around. that's an exploit.

How glorious of a griefing mechanic would it be if you could just pop people back to their bind without them having any choice. The game would be border line unplayable I am sure. A nice stroll through EC tunnel porting mules who are over burdened back to wherever lol
lol. would make a super cool pvp mechanic and if it worked on mobs, could make wizards more desirable in groups ^^

Well said.
It wasn't even "overpowered" in ToV since the binds were removed anyway.

Classic EQ isn't convenient. I really hope Secrets and Nilbog can make the Trilogy client a requirement to drive home this point to everyone who has been coddled by the Titanium client for 8 years.
What about all those times in Classic EQ I conveniently asked in /ooc if my quest mob was up and people happily replied rather than realizing what fools they were sitting around with MQable quest loot in the same zone as them.

As someone who never played a Wizard on live or here I'm confused: is this a classic nerf that P99 just implemented or a P99-specific nerf?
Or use an Overthere potion.
Yeah, use an item P99 has never had in its entire 8 year history, and probably won't have for another year :p
I still just don't get it: why even come here and post in these forums all the time with your Agnarr "wisdom"? Why not post on the boards for the server you actually play on, where you would be helping people instead of spreading misinformation?

Its Classic for Wizards to not be able to TL themselves. I played a wiz on live, I remember the 'no confirmation' box TLs, and never remember running around with one up on myself for 'protection'. There are also patch notes that support it sadly :(

wizards should be able to equip plate
i sitll want to play a mod of p99 where once you hit 60 you can erase everything and go back to level 1.. uppon doing so you get to pick ONE thing to take from that class with you.
Either 1 line of spells (shock of ice +) or 1 discipline or 1 ability to wear/use equipment plate armor, use swords etc.
the second grind to 60 would take 10% more xp the 3rd 30% the 6th 60% etc
but thats just eq in my stupid cuck dreams.
eventually you could be whatever fuckn OP class you wanted to be cus who cares.

Daldaen's post still make me go 'yikes' after all these years.
To OP, if there's patch notes supporting the change then you're SoL.
So, I checked my logs since I mained a wiz on live for a while... Apparently I was never "dumb" enough to cast TL on myself, but I do have this:
[Tue Jul 22 14:36:48 2003] You begin casting Translocate: Group.
[Tue Jul 22 14:36:50 2003] You say, 'kk '
[Tue Jul 22 14:37:02 2003] --Shrabok has looted a Sapphire.--
[Tue Jul 22 14:37:03 2003] Kumaddar begins to cast a spell.
[Tue Jul 22 14:37:06 2003] Clobidan tells the group, 'gating'
[Tue Jul 22 14:37:06 2003] Kumaddar experiences miraculous visions.
[Tue Jul 22 14:37:08 2003] Lavithon fades away.
[Tue Jul 22 14:37:08 2003] Kumaddar fades away.
[Tue Jul 22 14:37:08 2003] Clobidan fades away.
[Tue Jul 22 14:37:08 2003] You can only translocate others!

Found one in-era:
[Fri Dec 14 20:11:56 2001] You tell your party, 'never used this translocate group spell before...'
[Fri Dec 14 20:11:57 2001] Cinful tells the guild, 'where are we meeting for the Bar-b Que Monday night?'
[Fri Dec 14 20:11:59 2001] Gelielian auctions, 'WTS/WTT Fungi Tunic 25k or lookin for Velium Swift balde and another good WAR SLASH and armor - send tells plz'
[Fri Dec 14 20:12:00 2001] You tell your party, 'testing it out :P'
[Fri Dec 14 20:12:01 2001] You can only translocate others!
-Mcoy
Aww damn - 12/4 was the release of Luclin. FYI the 7/22 one is from 2003. Apparently I never tried casting the group version until just after Luclin's release.
