I can trace one side of my family back to around 1,000 AD in writing. Turns out my people kept birth records earlier than any other culture in the world!

On the other side, 1600's is about how far back I can go before it starts getting a bit hazy and less certain.

er actually that other side goes back to the late 1400's; just checked my docs. no ancestry.com bullshit i have relatives who spent years going around europe researching any concrete records they could find.
