Just hit 44 on my Ranger and realized it is time to move hunting spots. I've really enjoyed fear kiting but am having trouble finding a good camp at 44. I know Bats in Sol B are really good but I think I am still a few levels away. I just made my way to EJ but it seems most of the gorillas are flagged as undead and not animals. Not to mention I have no idea where to set up my camp there and have not had much luck running around with track.
Any suggestions on where I can set up my next camp? Don't need to fear kite, but I do tend to solo more than not, so it would need to be a camp a 44 ranger can solo.
Thanks!

Any particular camp spot in mind? I see there are panthers on the east side of the zone according to wiki, does anyone know if this is a viable fear kite spot?

Raptors and / or panthers both work. Haze panthers add a nice 1k if they drop a skin

Rabid griffons been tried yet?
Tigers in Overthere still good till 50 too.
SolB Bats were a tough solo for my ranger at 46.

Whats a good place in zone to setup camp/ fear the kitties around as safe as I can? Im thibking of moving that direction.

Killed a few and pulled to trak zone line. I may be spoiled by snow cougars on IC docks but I have to run pretty far out to find a mob and then its a bit dicey of ankiting area and a few KOS mobs do path by.

I found TT really blew for xp. I double down on my Overthere recommendation, it is pretty similar to iceclad. I would do my kites around the zone line to Frontier Mountains.

Pretty much any wall in WL is safe. The eastern wall along the 'hump' a bit north of the TP ring usually has a few panthers around. I suggest getting non-kos to cov tho so wuoshi spawn doesnt auto aggro you

Man id Love the bow he drops haha!
Cov, easiest way just kill some giants?
I think I am gonna check out OT first since its near where I am. But if that doesnt reward me well Ill make the trip to WL

Raptors by the Skyshrine zone in WL are great. If you want to tank/spank the exp off bards in High Keep are hard to beat. It's a good semi-afk grind. I did 45-51 there mainly as I was tired of staring at raptor ass.

Where do you pull to in EW? I was hanging around SW corner near walrus but it was meh when i was there.

I love your sense of adventure... if you want to just put your head down and plow through levels to try to get 50+ then I suggest the following:
For simplicity... I like the overthere up to 46. If you die 60's are around to help res. If you want to move out you have porters near. Could prob crush level 45 in about 8 hours.
Another, simple spot is Dreadlands... 46-50 is not tough for melee it's just slow and steady.
Once you get to 49+ bats in SolB will be better. I love the bats, the problem is the stun is so strong depending on gear +resists they tend to start to green out when you can really kill them quickly + efficiently on a monk. Ranger might be better/worse.
On the other hand, I respect your sense of adventure and to some people say EQ is about the journey not the destination, so take your time and have fun.

Are the raptors considered animals? IE I can fear kite them? Took a bit of a break over the holiday and am pushing through the second half of 45 ATM. Kodiaks in GD are a really easy fun camp, but over half are starting to green out and in a hell level it is super discouraging. I traveled through Kael and tried the panthers in WL and that was pretty good, but there is no "camp" I could find for panthers and running around the zone using track when fear kiting seemed a bit dangerous and tedious. Unless I missed something and someone knows a good place to make camp for panthers? When I play I tend to kill a few things and AFK, regardless of if I need downtime as I usually play while working or doing things around the house, so a place I can sit down and be relatively safe has some major appeal.
Raptors being by sky shrine, can I bind safely just inside zone line? I know there are places you can bind in SS but not sure if it is at the zone line. Still KOS in there :-(
Thanks all!

Raptors is great by the zone. They dont path far from the ent to SS and zig-zag a bit. Tigeraptors should be green and blue, the tigersaurus will be blue. Rapticor is the named and is blue as well but has a ton of hps. They all are random from the spawn spots on the hill.
Yes, you are quite a ways from the sentry guards in SS.

I did a fair amount of fear-kiting raptors and panthers in WL around that time, so I can attest that it's a fairly good spot. I would general pull to the SS ent area or to the north wall and was pretty safe.
Some other benefits of doing this in WL:
1.) Can easily solo the raptor guts for your Ice Shackles at this time. Also /ooc for any rotting branches people might need or try to recruit help to farm the Holgresh (they'll be hard to solo at your level).
2.) Keep an eye out on track for the Frost Giant Overseer for your Helm of the Tracker. I'd say this is generally the hardest/longest part of the quest but if you're XPing simultaneously, who cares? If you /ooc and there's a giant faction group going, you can usually get them to help you kill.
3.) As I mentioned, there's often giant faction groups going. Go faction-up a bit when you're tired of fear-kiting.

Just did this on my Ranger, so here was my experiences:
40-45ish:
- giants / griffons in EK and NK. If you need a boost, root them close to guards and let the guards whittle them down first.
- WL raptors. Harmony pull. If in trouble, bail to Skyshrine
- EW animals, such as walruses and rhinos. North or South ends work well here.
- OT animals (rhinos, some cats still blue)
45ish-50:
- group CoM
- continue EW animals. North end will take you to 50. Rhinos were still blue at 50, as well as the odd walrus and ulthork. South end it's pretty much just the man o'wars, which are rough
- WL raptors are pretty green now, although the named is still blue
- Sol B bats as mentioned
- OT animals, although most have greened out now

Finally out of the hell that is level 45. WL raptors were the solution. I think I can stay here for another level or two, especially if I get lucky and the tigesaurus spawn instead of the tigeraptors. 50/50 on raptors being green/blue.
Where did you make camp in the north section of EW? or was it more of a track and kill kinda camp? I tried the walrus in the SW area. decent area, lots of mobs, but the HP on them is high and the XP was not great. Slower kills for less reward. Rhinos maybe better?
I've been hearing about SolB bats for a long time and am very excited to give those a try as I have never really done anything in that zone before. Are they just a good solo camp for melee or are they able to be fear kited by ranger? Not sure what the layout is in there and how much space to work with.
Thanks again for the thoughtful and detailed replies!

It's pretty tight fighting. Never reverse kited there but bats are pretty mean and have a stun attack. Plus if you die you have to coerce a cleric out to rez you. I've thought the same thing and am actually tempted to jump on Live or EZServer just to practice the route in Sol B before I risk my P99 toon.
I would personally probably find groups here or there in more populated areas. That or save up for a tolan's bracer and bow rot stuff. Hunt in places with plenty of clerics, near COM in Emerald Jungle or in Dreadlands near Karnors. Plenty of rez clickers around or again people you can bribe. G'luck :)

You could also find a cleric or druid in WL who is there for faction and just see if they would heal as you kill giants. Free PL that way.

I could never get into a rhythm fear kiting the normal SolB bats camp. Not enough room between spawns coupled with multiple pathers just made for too many adds and had to train of aggro to frequently.
However you can fear kite the bats at the guano camp easily. Pull to the SolA zone line near that camp. There is a torch on the wall I use as my marker. From there snare and fear your bat. About when it gets to the lava p8uts in the guano room just turn back and return to that torch, your fear should break around that time. Once the bat is back to your pull spot just reapply fear. Rinse and repeat until dead.
Use Calm Animal and the zone line to break camp.
Jump shoot to pull the bat on the ledge.
There is a single LDC that paths into the entrance of the Guano room. If someone is camping them it will die before pathing and won't be a problem. If not he can prox aggro your fear kite. What i do is just root him where he enters the room, finish my kite, then zone to clear aggro. LDCs aren't worth killing unless well geared. You might win the fight but then have lots of downtime.
If you kill all 4 bats in guano room with time and mana to spare can go pull a beetle to face tank, easier than the LDCs.

Been thinking a Tolan bracer would be my next purchase actually. Obviously bow rotting is not the fastest but with a decent bow and unlimited arrows - I assume this is fairly viable seeing as there is no down time and you could kill bigger targets?
How would you say the XP compares to traditional face tanking/fear kiting?

Tolans does 3 things in my mind:
1.) Opens up your possible solo camps. It's not necessarily faster XP than fear-kiting animals or face-tanking light blues, but you have more options available to you.
2.) You can kill basically anything that can be snared/rooted with your mana pool, it just may take quite awhile.
3.) General convenience of not having to go back and fletch arrows if you've been pulling in an XP group for hours straight.

^-- Exactly :)
Facetanking and fear kiting is a short lived world for rangers. Unless you have epics, fungi, PoS cloak, etc.
I'm lvl 52 with a woodsman and SCHW's. I can solo ravishing drolvargs in Dreadlands with a bow. They rip me apart w/o it. Not sure I could kill one with a full mana bar...maybe with a swarmcaller proc.
With a bow I killed 5 of them (2 ravishers, 3 ragers) in about 25 mins...painfully slow EXP but they jumped me and I just rooted and started working them down. Better than camping out or zoning.

Along the north wall cliff-face, there's a section somewhere in the middle of the map I think where there's a bowl-like depression. There's some low walls with orc scouts and a few giants there, which you can easily tackle if interested. But the better stuff was rhinos that roamed the area and practically walked up to your pull spot that you can pick off, and then fear kite back by the cliff face where nothing comes by.
Quite a few ulthorks here too, most blue and green, if you want a straight up melee fight (save the tusks). The occasional walrus up this way too.
But 90% of the time I was fear kiting rhinos.
Yeah, Velious mobs have a ton of hp. But hey, it's xp. And it's mostly risk free.
I'd rather have a slightly slower kill rate with little downtime than a great xp camp but have to stop to heal and med after every fight.
