This guy is amazing. He creates his own samples.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSoScYz_4eQ

This video shows what he does exactly. He has over 10 guitar tracks in one song to sample. Techno music really needs to go toward this direction. DJs really are talentless compared.

The show I saw last night in seattle with him.

Other bands I recommend!

I also recommend Gobble Gobble.

... :-/ I wouldn't go that far, really once you get your head around input output guitars are one of the easier things to sample. Same kinda idea as a keyboard.

To say that DJ's are talentless compared to this guy is kind of bothersome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owx65279Y2E&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

even if that isn't your genre, just pay attention to how much shit is intentionally going on in the track, if it took no talent, everybody would be a world famous DJ :P

Seems similar to an artist I listen to call Gold Panda, pretty good.

And why can't people like more than one type of music? I don't listen to metal, but I also listen to folk, bluegrass, indie/rock wherein the artists play all their instruments with excellent results, but I still really enjoy this techno/sampling type music.

To say they don't write their own stuff is just silly.

Sure they don't write the specific parts, but they put together the parts in a magnificent way to create a fantastic final product that would not exist otherwise... like any good composer.

edit: I guess they also manipulate the specific parts to have each part become their own as well if you wanna look at it like that.

haha I love it metal too, but thats about where we stop agreeing with eachother. Define an instrument, something you use to make sounds with to make music? Computer fits that to me! And electronic artists still have to write their own music too, its not like you just push a couple of buttons and blamo you have a #1 song.

It's really hard, you should try it sometime before ya knock it!

The people who say that "real music" write their own music and implying that Will does not obviously have not looked into his style much.

There is a "how to" video he does that explains that in a single track (plea) he has over 10 guitar tracks that he created himself. All the snares, melodies, highs, lows, etc are all recorded by him. Being able to create all your samples is more talented than buying vinyl records or sampling others work.

This stuff was being done by Robert Fripp and Brian Eno back in the 80s. It has some resemblance to Philip Glass also. Minimalism is old news, and his tape loops are f-ing annoying for their sloppy edits.

Reggie Watts uses his own samples and does it all live. Granted it's all his voice and a microphone and only 4 tracks at once but sometimes less is more.

I will definitely give this guy a listen when I get home.

pretentious noise is pretentios, stick to venetian snares, professer brosenheim.

every link in this thread is boring, convoluted noise that makes me want to stab my ear drums with needles.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWhTga63c8I

wow. it is just so good guys.
come on now.

adding some totally cool effects to your chessboard looking fruity loops files doesn't make the final result any better on the ears. i think i'd actually rather listen to the books than this. ffs that's hard to say. afk - suicide.

ps. 'recording your own samples' means about as much as wiping your own ass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k10J_YPEgHk > this genre.

Edit: Sounds like 4 elevator songs remixed ontop of each other and adding a giant KICK every half note. I hate when people say these types are though provoking so much. :'((((((((((((((((((((

I like this song by Baths: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJhgsrqTzSk (after the first 25 seconds of weird noise)

Speaking of electronic music I really like the last Fourtet album and Caribou album (or is that considered "chillwave"? lol)
