I don't recall where I saw this fix from but a reminder in case anyone else has this issue.
If you login and certain keys like ` \ / - = ' are either mapped wrong or just plain don't work at all here is something that works for my setup:
Windows
goto Device Manager > Human Interface Devices > select "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" and either click the uninstall button below the alt menu or right click and select uninstall.
this will need to be done each time you reboot.
