Hey all, just a heads up,

I recently formatted my Mac, updated to HighSierra and reinstalled wineskin w/p99. However, HighSierra breaks Wineskin applications currently.

After some research I found this video of which fixes the issue with Wineskin on HighSierra, I can confirm that this fix does work (just did it myself).

Hope it helps!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDjWNWM3Y7w

Quick Step-by-step Guide based on the above video:

1) Right Click on your wine skin application and click 'Show package contents'
2) Click on 'Set Screen Options'
3) Uncheck the 'Auto Detect GPU info for Direct3D'
4) Click Done
5) Click on 'Advanced'
6) Click on the 'Tools' option
7) Click on 'Winetricks'
8) Click on 'Update Winetricks'
9) On the top, type 'video'
10) Expand the 'settings' list
11) Check the 'Tell wine your video card has 2048MB RAM' (regardless of the actual size of your card, it will conform to what is available, automatically)
12) Click 'Run'
13) Exit out of options and run application.

So I get stuck on updating WineTricks.

Cannot Update!!

Connection to the website failed. The site is either down currently, or there is a problem with your internet connection.

Sucks. Gonna see if I can figure out how to manually update this portion.

hmm so the media fire wine wrapper is not pointing to the correct location

Are you sure you want to update to the latest version of Winetricks?

The latest version from...

pageok

will be downloaded and installed for this wrapper.

Hmm, I'm not sure about that, you can always re-install wineskin, just incase. Though I would keep a copy of the EQ folder within wineskin on the side, so you can reuse it.

Have you tried that, or is this version a brand new copy? I had to format so mine is definitely a new version of wineskin.

Hmm, indeed. What I did was use the mediafire WineSkin link (from the other thread) and used my existing installation of EQ from a yearish or so ago.

Could you please hook me up with the link of the Wineskin version you downloaded? It's definitely a problem with that mediafire Wineskin version I used. I'd rather try a complete fresh install of WineSkin/EQ Titanium before attempting to Boot Camp or downgrade.

Thanks for replying!

I just tried this myself. After I told my settings to run at the 2048MB ram and clicked RUN, it told me "Your version of wine 1.9.17 is no longer supported upstream. You should upgrade to 2.x"

What engine are you currently using?

EDIT: Never mind, just ran the program and worked just fine for me! Thanks for the help dude!

im trying to figure this out i think it's 2.62

*ok this updating wine wrapper shit over a fucked install isn't working

i think the answer is starting a clean wine wrapper install /w fresh titanium install from scratch and then doing the video memory winetricks workaround

a task for another day

I too am having trouble when trying to update wine tricks. Might just set up P99 on my windows partition until wine is fixed :-( if anyone else has a work around or easy fix for the wine tricks update - let me know :-)

EDIT: So, looks like simply turning the auto detect GPU option OFF is enough to get p99 working. I am not sure how stable it is. But the game has launched and I am in running around. I'll report back if there are any obvious issues with zoning or DC/app crashing. But otherwise simply turning off auto detect GPU seems to be enough. Happy hunting

So for those of you that upgraded to macOS High Sierra, here's what I did to get Project 1999 running on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch Early 2013).

First, obtain a Windows 7 x64 bit Professional full installation standalone .ISO, (you'll need a Windows license) NOT an OEM manufacturer Windows .ISO.

Follow this KB article VERBATIM:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468

Upon completion of the above article, run windows update otherwise your graphics card won't be detected by EQ.

I copied an existing installation folder of p1999 off my backup drive to the MacBook and then downloaded the latest Project 1999 files patch. *(Project 1999 Files (V45) <-- at time of this post

I've solved this problem by trial and error. See below for my solution, it's a bit lengthy but it works on my MacBook Air (2014).

1. Download and install the latest wineskin winery app: http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php?page=Downloads
2. Run the Wineskin Winery App
3. Click that + button to add a new Engine
4. Choose WS9Wine2.6 and then click Download and Install
5. On the main window of the Winery app, click "Update" button to update wrapper version
6. You should see the wrapper version is Wineskin-2.6.2 after the update
7. Create a new Blank Wrapper
8. Choose whatever name you like for the app and create it, the default name is MyCoolWrapper
9. Right click the app you just created, choose "show package content"
10. Select and copy that Wineskin (this is version 2.6.2)
11. Go back to the Project 1999 wrapper, and right click it to "show package content".
12. Paste the Wineskin and replace the one inside the Project 1999 wrapper.
13. Run the new Wineskin in the Project 1999 wrapper (you may see some error message, please ignore it)
14. Choose advanced -> tools -> update Wrapper
15. quit the app
16. Follow step 1 of Riddick's original instruction.
17. Launch Project 1999 wrapper, and the game should be running!

Thanks Kurok! This worked for me on El Capitan, though I'm getting the "spells file out of date" even though I downloaded that patch. Any ideas?

I think perhaps you might want to follow the original guide to install a fresh copy of EQ on OSX.

@kurok I am stuck at step 11 - The only wrapper i see is the one I just created - /users/my-user/applications/Wineskin/Project1999.app. I copied the Wineskin.app from within "Show Package Contents" - but do not see the other 1999 wrapper you refer to. Any help is much appreciated. I played EQ during Ruins of Kunark and have not had the same MMO experience ever since :)

I finally had to update to High Sierra.... This fix worked for me after about a dozen tries. Every time I hit Run it would start the P99 wrapper and throw out an error about not being able to do the thing when it was running. Force quit, try again, repeat..

@lulzselect - The Project1999 ISO's are not needed? Excuse my ignorance. I am getting errors left and right when I try to run this. When i click Project1999.app, it just loads the wineskin app.

I'm trying like crazy to get this figured out. I'm running Mojave, that it in itself might be the issue. I have Vile's Files (Thank you). It opens, unlike my own attempts at wine wrapper. I can get so far as logging into server and selecting blue, but it crashes after that. Any ideas? I could game all day... if I could get p99 working on my work laptop!

I grabbed a MacBookAir running high sierra to test on and I get the same error. The second I hit enter selecting blue server it crashes. Must be something with my files from the link shared off dropbox. I've updated the wine video settings that need to be fixed. Still get the same error before and after changing the video settings.

i don't remember but you MIGHT need to download the latest V45 etc etc file (getting started)

and then put it into Vile's package by clicking (i think?) show package on the EQ icon to navigate into the faux windows folders where the game is located

absolute worst case scenario is setting up dual booting with boot camp (barf)

This worked for me after I patched to v46 (http://www.project1999.com/files/P99Files46.zip)
However, it takes a long time to load, and it did stop working for some reason. Works again after redoing it again, although it often crashes after server select or char select.

I find it is less likely to crash if I leave it for a minute or so on each of those screens.

I also had to change the Max. Frames per second down to about 30, which is in options under the display tab.

Hey all, I downloaded Vile's dropbox file. Then I updated the files to V46. I also double checked video settings and the Winetricks option for 2054mb memory. The Winetricks memory was not selected. I fixed that and clicked Run. Double click on P99 file on my desktop ( Has velious cover image) and I get this Error. Any suggestions ?? Been trying for days to get back on EQ anything is helpful at this point.

I tried the Winetricks settings and the memory setting and this did not work for me either. I had to just run the patched Dropbox file.
After clicking the Everquest icon to start it shows P99 up on the menu, but it takes 30 seconds or so until I actually see the game screen.
