What is a legit, in-game, business like dial a port or bob's escrow back in the day that I could start? I love the idea of that kind of stuff but am lacking in good ideas.

You can sell icecreams in oasis. Weather there is pretty good and I'm sure you would find buyers in no time.

Currency exchange; swapping gold, silver and copper for platinum. Swapping plat for gem stacks. Dial a 'dot.
Nutrition is important for recovery from combat fatigue and to gather mana from the surroundings. Not easy to find food in the field. Food & Drink delivery; Dial a Pork.
Being harassed by another player? Need someone to stand up for you? Dial a Retort.
Swarm kiting but need someone to check corpses for valuable loot? Dial a Hawk.

Create a RP guild of ERPers. Fees would be whatever you determined!
You could begin by offering ERP in the alley's of FP, starting out as a fledgling pimp. Once you got more members, you then could start setting up your brothel in Freeport.
Once you establish yourself as the King Pimp of Freeport you could begin to branch out and set up "shop" in Neriak, with a string of dark elven beauties.
Next, Qeynos and Felwithe, where you could showcase the wood elf and high elf lovelies.
Although this might make these otherwise non-populated zones populated again, it might be easier to just have one Brothel set up, and require that your guild members relocate from their original cities of birth and work in Freeport to keep things simple for your guild members and the customers who want to enjoy RPing/ERPing all in one spot.

Trading people's currency in for plat coins was a legit thing back in classic on the live servers. I bound at the South Karana treants and would regularly drop in and offer people a trade...their gp/sp/cp or anything else heavy for pp.
Some didn't want to leave their camps to sell. Also I always carried extra water, sell that to people who are low for a profit lol

The devs removed all of these things away from the game due to a few bad seeds...no more account trading/selling/buying, no more casinos, etc....tbh these 2 were the best ways to make bank....i made millions back in the day here on p99 from just account trading......
The only other way to make plat here is to flip items (buy under market price and sell for market price)....you can really only make bank when you wheel and deal higher end items so you make more plat....you could start low and work your way to higher end stuff....this requires you to sit in EC all day though.
One other way I made an INSANE amount of plat for very little time back in the day was Red > Blue trading...I would sell items on red that would only be worth 500 plat on blue for 5,000 plat on blue - they would give me 5,000 plat on blue, i would then log in my red character and give them the item they just payed me for on blue...the ratio was insane like 10-20:1...so an item worth 1,000 plat on blue, you could get 15,000 plat for....so i would farm these type of items on Red and sell them for blue currency....this didn't last too long though, maybe only a year or so after Red opened.
Account buying/selling/trading was the best way by far though...i would buy accounts, let them sit for 1-2 weeks (do nothing to them) and resell them for 25% higher than what I paid...when you consider most accounts sold for 100,000 plat, this is a huge amount of profit, i made over a million plat after just 1-2 months..this was back in the day when only a very few had over a million plat on the server

Server is lacking a good old fashioned powerleveling guild.
You would need to invest some time researching what stuff sells for and when you see peeps selling on the cheep buy it and resell it. Lots of casual gamer's don't like to sit in the tunnel more that an hour or so buying or selling.

Instead of dial-a-port how about Dial-a-Bank? Currency exchange anywhere, anytime, on call 24-7!
Make a cleric and be online at 3am eastern. I get so many tells around that time because apparently I'm the only non-raiding cleric that responds to tells. Too bad I don't accept donations for rez. Obamacare ftw.

Honestly though - I made a druid. Some people are lazy / want to get to pixels fast. Bind in "clever" spots and the stuff people throw at you to port them is nuts. That's how I afford to keep Mcoy stocked with dots.

Just be poor and enjoy the game. Play here long enough and you'll end up rich. 5 years got me a net worth of probably around 2 mil with very little time actively raising plat. There's very little on this server you -need- plat for as an individual high end raider. Personally I'd suggest spending your life doing something more productive than raising elf duckets.

<Deluxe Toolbox>
A guild-business that helps with the creation and setup of Mules
Step 1) Level up a druid for minimum: ice-clad port , or all the way for more ports / Potg- bind at EC tunnel.
Step 2) Buy 8 Deluxe tool boxes (total cost: like 10plat or something? cheap as dirt)
Step 3) When a customer wants to set up a mule you deliver 8 Deluxe toolboxes to their new mule in EC (or possibly other location charge a fee (250p or something?)

Have a character in each major raiding guild and then auction off raid suspension to the highest bidder. Whichever guild doesn't pay enough you fraps yourself training another raid and send it to sirken.

I think the The Maidens Fancy is hiring strippers. Could always do that, and maybe do some take-out for some extra plat.

It is good advice. I thought it was Ducates. Looked it up -
Urban Dictionary: ducate
www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ducate
May 15, 2014 - The action of spanking yourself, with hand or any available object. Must be done while wearing white lace panties.
WTF, ok no E on the end -
Tried again as Ducat -
A ducat is a gold coin. Ducat sounds like “duckit” and was used as European currency until the early 20th century. Ducat is an Italian word related to duke. If you recognize this word, you might know it from William Shakespeare's Hamlet, in which the hero shouts “Dead, for a ducat, dead!”

I honestly don't see one activity in the game more time-wasting than another.
If you log in, it's really a big waste of time. (I am not saying that is bad in itself, as I think escaping reality and wasting time can be great way to relieve stress.)
I agree with Cecily on this point though; raising elf duckets is not very productive to one's life... I don't judge though.

On-demand currency exchanges / gems for coin to people grinding/camping.
On-demand courier service of lore drops to people's tunnel mules.
If you have a WIZ/DRU and a CLR, add in full-service ports and rezzes.
If you have a ROG/MNK add in full-service corpse drags / lockpicks.
Kind of sounds like no fun though.

Depending on how you look at it, this is just another form of power leveling. Which is worth money. That being said, I wouldn't give you my account info. But that's just me. However, if you had a Druid and a shaman to follow me around with, I could see that being worth about 2k an hour. If not more.

Sell OT hammers. It's a real business. You need puppet strings and someone willing to help you recharge your strings. There is a huge demand these days. 2.5k a hammer easy.
I will rent my puppet strings to you for the low price of 10k per week. That means after four hammers you're making huge profit. You can do one hammer in five to ten minutes depending on how noob your client is.

Porting can make you 1k/hour during peak times.
A "Dial a Res" service would make you bank. If you had an epic Cleric, you could even partner up with a porter and do real well.
There's still some decent plat farming camps, too.

Seriously though. Some really good ideas in this thread. I can see that portability is a valuable commodity. Most of these job ideas require you to be johnny on the spot with a bag full o' sumthin'.
Also some of them I think might directly conflict with the terms and conditions. Being a raiding guild spy, sabotaging high level raids at auction, prostitution, certain forms of powerlevelling are also against the TandC also right like pulling the entire zone?

Dial A Rez was a a guild at one point. Didnt last long, don't think it was as profitable as expected. I imagine people ask you to go to obscure zones to rez them then tip like 100pp tops.

I just assumed Clerics 4 Life was the new version (not because I've seen them advertise as such, but why else would you make an all-cleric guild?)

There probably wasn't enough epic'd clerics sitting around in that guild for it to last. I can see it being extremely profitable though, just set a price and get paid up front. I've paid 500pp for a rez in permafrost, and I would be willing to bet other players would pay the same in similar zones (HS, The Hole, etc) especially during off peak times

Yeah maybe so. One thing is people don't die (without a cleric around) as often as they travel so I don't know. I agree people will pay a premium for a rez in some places, but seems like for an epic cleric they'd have better ways to make money.
I was just speculating on the fate of Dial a Rez, not sure if the profitability is why it closed or if it was something else. The one time I asked them for a rez I never got one and after that when I checked it didn't seem to exist.
I don't think Clerics 4 Life is a rez guild, pretty sure it's a 1 man guild or at least I've only ever seen 1 person with the tag.

You log on to their account and do their combine spams for them. Maybe skill up their characters for them too.
Jimjam had a brief jaunt into blacksmithing a few years ago and javs were profitable. Similarly, You can probably make money off 150 range arrow if you get your name out there. 4 gold per stack to make the basic ones. You could probably sell a few stacks at a time for many times that.

DID I DO IT RIGHT GUYS.
-approached a camper at nybright and asked if he needed pp in exchange for gear and gp/sp/cp.
-received tip of 5pp in exchange for becoming instantly encumbered with loose change.
-whilst trying to figure out where I went wrong, said camper is yelling for help but I don't see it because I'm on the wiki looking for gems I can sell back what I paid for them. Said camper dies. I offer to watch his camp until he gets back but he gives up camp.
-I unexpectedly pull three sisters at once and pet instantly dies. I forget I have FD so I start running and trying a previously untested method of kiting.
-I get back stabbed while trying to run and in a panic I cast leech on said camper's corpse and right after, infectious cloud on myself.
-I make it to zone with 8% health left. I immediately re-enter LF because I don't want to lose camp. I get one shotted by a brownie of some sort while running along the path
-I dial another port to get back, miraculously the camp is still mine and I successfully camp the sisters for an hour and a half.
-I find someone kind enough to watch the camp while I'm at the Druid ring in SF selling, I try to get rid of my loose change by purchasing a lambent stone for 47p (about the same as my profit for the night).
-npc merchant offers me 4pp for the lambent stone. Apparently lambent stone is not a gem. It's only a stone.

Well I just read all 5 pages. I love that everyone thinks putting Dial in from of whatever they try to cook up will make them anything. Be creative with your name.
There are a million in one ways to make plat. The ones that already exist are the toughest to squeeze into. Fat catting being the most difficult. Porting well I always have said come at us I love competition. Plat swap well we do that too but few far in between and as you see you only got 5p and a butt load of hurt outta it.
Dial a Rez was one of the few dials that actually might of had a chance of the leader had stuck with it. In my time the guild has made 2 clerics with epics each totaled out to about 100k to make PL + Epic + gear. So unless you have no time and plat invested in a cleric and it was given to you the chances you make back plat before you burn out is 2%.
If I were to say the new up in coming thing that is on the sidelines would to be selling full gear for toons. I would call it < Twink Town > or < Twink a Toon > . The best way to make money on this box is to cater to those that are lazy and want it now. Most have spend the time and effort to get an account full of 60s the last thing they want to do is hunt and peck for gear. So you do that and say mark it up by 100% of its total value you are looking pretty good.
In conclusion. The box is old and you sir started late in the game I wish you good luck and hope you can come up with something better than Dial a *Fill in the blank*
