View Full Version : Remap [ESCAPE] key

Hey guys, so the Escape key stopped working on my computer. For Windows I remapped it to the "²" key and it works well. Inside EQ not so much, and everything like closing any windows I have to do manually instead of using [ESC].

Is there any way to change it using the KEYMAPPING_ thing inside the Eqclient? And how?

Thanks!

It might be more effective to change it in your registry

It might be possible by editing eqclient.ini or something, but I kind of doubt it. It's certainly impossible in the game itself, as the key-binding stuff makes it literally impossible to set ESC as the key binding for any action (which means the "action" for ESC isn't controllable in the UI).

Stupid question: why not just get a new one? Keyboards are so cheap (eg. $14 https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-KU-0833-Wired-Keyboard/dp/B005EOWBHC/ref=sr_1_3) that I'd offer to send you an extra one, but it probably would cost more to mail it than it would cost you to buy.

Sounds like he's on a laptop and replacing the board/fixing the key would be a lot of effort

I changed it in registry already and working for windows app. I used SharpKeys. Everquest ignores it though. It's like it has ESC hardwired to that one key, bypassing Windows registry.

And yes I'm on a laptop, dismantling for access to the keyboard is a pain.

You should be able to plug any USB keyboard into a laptop and use it just fine, but I can understand not wanting to carry a keyboard around with your laptop :)

You can set up things to open and close all windows except tell windows and merchant windows but those you can just walk away.

Bag close key bind

Inventory key

Really isn't much else you need to close.
