On p99 rotted corpses are restored.
On live, we did not have this nicety.
Did you ever lose all your gear through a corpse rot on live? Which item did you most regret losing?

My level 10 high elf wizard died somewhere random in Lesser Faydark, near an orc camp...in a dip in the landscape somewhere.
I hunted for it and kept dying. I found my naked corpses but the equipped one rotted. I rerolled :( lol
Edit: No that wasn't on P99 ... pssh

Only once. My corpse rotted in kc when i was level 55ish and the gms would not restore it. This was 2001-02. I quit out near entrance and died somehow. Came back a week later with nothng but what i had in bank.

I'd wager if you had pushed the issue aggressively you would have gotten your gear back. Back when Verant/Sony had a business to run, as a paying customer ... there's no reason they would have denied that unless there was evidence of shenanigans.

I had my account stripped and the GMs investigated, agreed it had been somebody on a different continent who had done the deed, didnt restore any items though

in 1999/2000 I rolled a Human Ranger named Onusin on the Druzzil Ro server, my first character.
My friends in real life told me I rolled the wrong server, and i was stubborn and decided to play him anyways.
Extremely early on into my adventures, lvl 4-5 tops, a lvl 40 something bard (wood elf) ran from Freeport to Surefall Glade ZL in Qeynos Hills specifically to find a newbie to hand items to.
I was a ranger and could not wear the ENTIRE SUIT of small and medium bronze he handed me in 8 slot backpacks. Instead I sold them (in 1999, at lvl 4, first character ever, for 1000 platinum).
I was rich.
Shortly after receiving this wealth I purchased a Polished Granite Tomahawk, and a piece of Ivy Etched etc etc. I was styling.
My luck continued... a druid and ranger of high level popped into Qeynos Hills from WK to shout "GHOUL MESSENGER UP, FIRST RANGER HERE GETS HELPED!"
i was the first ranger there.
We found, and hunted the messenger. I looted, and we begin a fully escorted run (hours, this is 1999) to Kithicor Forest to turn in for the Short Sword of Morin.
I received my Short Sword, had a PGT, at this point multiple Ivy Etched... I was level 6, just waiting for dual wield at 13.
From Kithicor I was told there was good hunting in EC for my level, I headed there.
I zoned in and started following the left wall, as I was told to, equipped with a nice SoW and invis.
I made it as far as the Nightfall Giant, who slayed me.
I arrived in Qeynos Hills naked, having died only a couple times prior to that and knowing I needed to retrieve my corpse.
In real life, as this realization occured, my dad yelled upstairs "Bud lets go, what the fuck!"
It was family vaca time... 7 days in Maine later my corpse was gone.
So I rolled Azeth on Rodcet Nife with my friends.
Yes but didn't know GMs could give em back so didn't try petitioning.
Died zoning between Freeport and Commons and my corpse just poofed somewhere inside the zonewall. Don't think I knew about /corpse so didn't try that, not sure. Looked for a long while and just started over after. Years YEARS later they added the veteran AAs that let you summon corpses, and I swear I got my Bloodforge Hammer and set of Patchwork back at long last.

Hey fellow Nifer!
Somewhat similar. Worked at Circuit City - this new game was the rage. Picked it up and rolled a human wiz with a coworker as a human war on Karana. Didn't have much other than a lightstone, a runed totem staff someone gave me, and my newb robe. Now that I can look back on it - I'm pretty sure my corpse was at the derv camp in WC and I was just convinced it was in EC (was only level 5).
Anyway it worked out in the end; when I re-rolled (again human wiz [Qien]) on Rodcet I accidentally duped my corpse just after looting a greater lightstone so I was living the newb dream. (Apparently if you died at the right time as the server was being shut down, you'd end up with a corpse and your clothed self. I had no idea - I just really wanted that wisp to die and thought I could pull it off...)
Oh the times we had...

Great stories!
From this thread I now suspect restores may have been at the mercy of individual whims of which ever GM your server had?

You are right. I was a teenager and just assumed the savage nature of corpse rot was part of what made the game special. If it happened today I would do things differently.

Corpse restorations make me happy. I brought one back the other day that rotted in 2010. Nothing like a 7 year break!

Yes, I was in my early 20's playing a 40 something paladin. Cash was limited and I died just before my sub was going to hit and I didn't at the time have funds to cover it. Once I got everything squared away and logged back in, my corpse had rotted. My guild banded together and regeared me, and I think my gear was even better than before!
I remember when they first introduced that corpse graveyard in PoK Think I was on my ranja at the time yeah it was ranja my necro never died. i had about 20 or so.

Same thing happened to me with a high elf wizard and then a human wizard too

Way back, my PC was having really weird issues where I'd be in a zone, zone somewhere else, and I'd pop up at the first zone in. For example, I would zone into BB from GFay, run to Kaladim, and after I finished loading, I'd be back at the Gfay zoneline. This happened to me when I was kiting at the Chessboard. Got my ass handed to me and respawned at Kaladim instead of my bind point. I ran to where I died and it wasn't there. No corpses in zone. I petitioned and the GMs had no account of a body of mine. Had to start from scratch.
Eventually got my epic on that same toon. Never give up!!!

Never lost gear to a rot on live, but I did accidentally delete a character.
Logged to char select, selected Toon A
Delete Toon A
Toon A still there....
Delete Toon A again..
Toon A and B disappear.
Thankfully the one that wasn't supposed to be deleted was restored by a gm after petitioning

I probably would have handled it the same way you did at the time ... also a teenager (and one that didn't know my asshole from my elbow).
