View Full Version : Unrest - is it a blood pool or a lava pool?

A friend of mine and I have been having a discussion (argument)

The pool of red stuff in the basement of the mansion in Unrest.

Is it blood (as I see it) or is it lava, as he sees it.

If it was lava it would do damage to you

Why does it have to be blood? It could be spaghetti sauce. Definitely not lava though.

Is there a link between that pool and the one in Crushbone inside the castle? Something for that Kraddok fellow to investigate perhaps

Many foul magics are afoot in unrest, stripped all the inhabitants of their life force yet there corpse remains in a lesser animated form. Who's to say this foul magic didn't strip the lava of its power and create some different kind of non damaging lava?

It's blood and has to do with the priest making sacrifices. That's how I've always read it.

From my observations of Unrest, this boobytrap is in fact an enchantment placed on the basement to fool adventurers into avoiding the "lava". It is an illusion, thus it is lava but not real lava.

As you have forced the subject, I am obligated to inform you that it is in fact a open latrine for all the denizens of that condemned building. Ghoul's and Zombie's alike sword fight nightly at the great red relief downstairs.

Sounds like a Najena thing

Most likely blood, since the backstory of unrest involves some dude (gynok) killing all the residents and getting cursed to stay and haunt the place

Edit : Also, if it was lava, it would be somewhat unique, as it would be the only continent with a single lava pool (afaik)

Antonica - Sola/Solb/Solro/LS/?
Odus - None?
Faydwer - None?
Kunark - Vp/SF/?
Velious - Unsure, headmap incomplete.

Guess it could be some retro-fit bullshit story that came out with eq2. Would still be weird to be the only lava on the continent though.

Edit: Not gynok, garanel, wups

Yes most likely blood based on the lore. You beat me to it but here's another discussion.

It is also mentioned in the Bard epic quest line:

"Baenar Swiftsong strums his lute and clears his throat. 'Here is a tale of the place of torment from which souls good and bad have come to call home upon this earthly [realm]."

"The place I speak of is the Estate of Unrest. It is a place that the dead roam and the living detest. Garanel Rucksif was his name, a name that no longer came to be. A name that Quellious herself saw fit not to let anyone see, for a cleric loyal to her called the lands home. Open to all, the Fier'Dal, Koada'Dal and even the occasional [gnome]."

"A mansion built by the cleric with care For he came to spread the word of Quellious to Faydwer. Garanel mad with rage, killed his wife and children three. From his dwarven homelands he now will flee. Upon this place of tranquility he stumbled upon. He tortured and killed the cleric and his kin by morning's dawn Within the sacred chapel walls the bloodshed took place. Eyes wild with rage, madness and blood upon his [face]."

"Quellious enraged by this act of violence and murder, decreed that this would continue no further! Garanel was struck down, his soul cursed forever more, to haunt the grounds of the defiled estate, guarding its bloody floor. Undead monsters, ghosts and [ghouls] slaughter all those who stray. They say his undead power grows within him to this day. This sad tale, my friends, is the Legend of Unrest."

For he came to spread the word of Quellious to Faydwer.

I've been pronouncing Faydwer wrong for so many years...

Telin, remember that time you patched 'a huge water elemental' in LGuk? (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2407387) I sure do... still my favorite patch note in all my years as a gamer :)

Boys and girls please raise a glass to Telin this Fourth of July!

The fact that it is called 'an huge water elemental' lets us know that frogloks talk with a heavy London cockney gangster accent, i.e. the correct pronunciation is "He's An Ooouge Watah elahmentaahl barsteward!"
