View Full Version : PSA: Fellspine's spawn chance has been nerfed

Attention Fellspine farmers and the Project 1999 community:

The days of seeing Fellspine in approx. 1 in 4 spawns are over - Fellspine’s spawn rate has been nerfed.

My crew and I have killed exactly 32 placeholders over the past few days and seen only 2 Fellspines. Contrast that with the 13 Fellspines (roughly 1 in 4 during this time) that we have killed over the past few weeks via casual farming. Corroborating this finding, the massive surplus of Spiked Seahorse Hide Belts from a week or two ago has completely disappeared.

I predict two outcomes from this change: (1) The price of Spiked Seahorse Hide Belts currently in circulation will increase back towards the historical average of around 80k and (2) farming Fellspine will be nowhere near as profitable as it once was.

Can any other Fellspine farmers support or contradict these findings?

Have noticed EC questers making threads in server chat to hike up their prices lately

Then we've just been incredibly unlucky lately or were incredibly lucky in the past. I appreciate you responding, though. I didn't expect that. :)

When did Fellspine get put in? I used to clear Seahorses for hours and hours a couple years ago and never saw him once. Just curious I dont play anymore.

Shush, Emmin is a good guy. He was just trying to do the community a favor and provide some recent data and you guys shit all over him. No wonder people don't bother updating the wiki =)

Also Emmin, you obviously have mis-underestimated RNG in this game. I call this game RNGquest, it's the king of RNG.

Server can be patched with no one even knowing, they did it as such to preload the updates so a new update files would not have to be manually downloaded and added into the EQ directory. This is mostly for the major content patches however.

Or the fact I have killed 20k wyverns in SS without seeing the Wurm Lord Shawl and other people have got it in 200 kills and they have no idea how rare it is.

Sorry for your bad luck Emmin!

I figured I would let you know the spawn rate has not been nerfed in anyway.

Spawns are just random, I can remember when I used to play many hours would pass without seeing one named. Then the next time I camp the same spawn I would have a few of them.

With that said, Welcome to Classic EverQuest! :)

Emmim personally trained Felspine on me then ducked over my corpse to simulate a lewd act to humiliate me.

I was in a salty mood when I originally made this thread because I had just seen 25 placeholders in a row at a camp where the named has historically been much more common. I deserve to get some shit for it now that the guides have provided their input, and I can laugh about it with the rest of you because it's pretty funny.

There's a silver lining for me, though, because I thought the spawn rate had actually been lowered, so I was never going to farm Fellspine again. Now I know that's not true (thanks guides!). Let it rain haste belts on Project 1999! :D

A+++ for ducking out of the obvious attempt to sway the forum elfs with misinformation to sell a seahorse spine belt for an immensely inflated amount.

I never suspected you for a minute of doing that, btw! The Emmin I know is straight as an arrow and would NEVER try to sell items for more than the typical going rate!

Afterall... 60k is still decent plats, I mean it's not 80k, but, still not bad! :)

I used to pretty much live in SG, and would regularly clear seahorses, molkors, bulthars and ulthorks. I never saw Fellspine once.

I took a hiatus, and saw a ton of Fellspine gear for sale in EC.

So, I never even knew the spawn was fixed. His PH is still any seahorse spawn, right?

I don't know much about Fellspine, but what I gather there is a static placeholder (someone mentioned it was in 'the temple'?). It can be duo'd by the right classes, basically involves being on faction in SG and pulling Fellspine to get him to a safe area. Seahorses are funny where they will stop chasing when you jump out of the water, so there is some kind of tactic to do that and get him isolated to a safe spot and kill him.

I'm sure there are tons of little nuances to make it happen. Probably need good zone knowledge, spawn locations, pathing routes, timing, proper spells / clickies, etc.

I seem to recall the first 10 months of Velious I'd never see a Spiked Seahorse Hide Belt auctioned, now there is almost always one in the tunnel trying to be sold.

I tip my hat to the farmers that figured this out, is undoubtedly a super dangerous zone (not even nerfed yet, it's beast mode SG v1.0).

1.) Emmin is a good dude and by no means would intentionally provide misinformation to alter prices.

2.) If someone did want to provide misinformation to alter prices I don't see how that's breaking any rules.

Looking forward to more posts from you Emmin! Forumquesting is indeed fun. If you start feeling adventuresome, head on into the RnF section of the forums where banter really picks up a bit!

Good times for all involved. :)

I dont want to go into details but i think a lot of people know fellspine is being farmed using multiple non classic exploits. Ill just leave it at that until the real classic heads decide the gig is up

You aren't supposed to be able to bind in Siren's Grotto, but on P99 you can. You get the message that you can't bind to the area but your bind point changes anyways. There is an open bug report on it, so pretty sure devs are aware.

So I'm sure there is some agro / gate type tactics that shouldn't be possible.

I believe the bind issue is the bind point is saved in the user profile or something like that, Nilbog made a post on how it is difficult to change people's bind points, but not difficult to change being able to bind in an area.

I think if they disabled binding in SG today, people still bound there would have an unfair advantage (same with people bound in ToV)... so perhaps they are leaving it alone until they have a true fix in place?

There is another exploit that was promptly deleted when posted in the bug forums or moved to the exploit section, so wouldn't be comfortable explaining that one.

Let's just say it is a common practice that certain classes use and don't realize it is an exploit... Just something that is enabled that is not classic.

Lot of knowledge you got there. I always see chanters and clerics in SG so I assume these two classes in particular have an easier time in SG than others.
