So I'm trying to figure out what to chase for leveling a mage. I have a level 17 magician that I'm playing now and I'm trying to make sure I'm spending my plat effectively for the long haul rather than buying replacement pieces as I go.

I'm looking for the best bang for my buck and I'm looking for relatively low cost items here, 5k max and preferably things I can resell in the future when I have replaced it with better.

(I already have my early focus items)

Helmet: Helot Skull Helm (http://i.imgur.com/LayGgNz.png) (for dat sweet shiny skull)
Offhand: Insignia Protector (http://68.media.tumblr.com/07d96185f92b9e152ab0afa4e7274fb1/tumblr_inline_ns0my2BDvg1sx2rih_500.jpg) (Shiny ass beautiful yellow offhand)
Mainhand: Epic (Lots of green blue red yellow sparkles!)

And the final result is the best looking character in Everquest. Period.

As a mage, the gear you wear is practically insignificant. The things that are really going to matter are buying your spells and keeping charged root nets in your bag.

... and keeping a healthy supply of pearls in your bag.

jesus I forgot how fucking easy this game was when you had broken gear like root nets still.

How are those viable at 100pp per root cast!?

When you are a pp millionaire these costs are trivial. But they are really for "oh shit" situations.

Only costs 20pp to buy back the net...so more like 7pp per root cast
