Shaman epic- black dire question

I just hit 39 and have done all of the steps up until black dire. Should I try to get some friends together and take him out or can I start leveling/doing pages in CoM then come back later? Not sure what faction standing is required to turn the pages in.

Always planned on doing it at some point. Just didn't want to be a lvl 39 burden during the fight. Also want to do CoM from 39 to 44ish while combining pages.

I am bottlenecked at the black dire, or am I? I thought I needed to kill him in order to get book to combine pages. I already have my first set of 6 to combine.
