View Full Version : How do chanters use ToT?

On live on pvp-server Theft of Thought worked on player characters with no mana (until it was nerfed which was quite a bit later than current p99 era). I'm considering rolling a chanter but I can't seem to figure out how ToT works on p99? Can you ToT a warrior mob? Does charm factor in? Like can I ToT a charmed warrior mob but not a non-charmed warrior mob? Thanks :)

Mob must have mana for ToT to work so it will not work on warrior mobs. Not sure about bard NPC's.

To ToT your charmed pet, charm must be broken first.

Thanks for the reply. So, snooping around some more I found this video:

Look at approx 6:35. He charms one Greater War Boned Skeleton then casts Theft of Thought on another Greater War Boned Skeleton. He even mentions how many percentage points his mana increases by. Those mobs are monks. How can that be?

He says, maybe it's another video, that it might be because the skeles harm touch that they are considered SKs, thus have mana to leech.

Right, could be it then.

Once 52 do you always have ToT memmed? How "good", for lack of a better word, is it on p99?

I should note that I don't know if that's true but it was his explanation.

If you are fighting where you can ToT mobs consistently, I would have it memmed at all times. If you can't ToT mobs then take it off the bar.

yes depends on zones, typically I always keep it memmed in Sebilis

ToT lands on targets that have a "mana pool"

Hypothetically, you cast on a mob that has 1 mana left, you still get the full tap into your own pool.

Without clicking the video link, is this greater war boned skel in HS?

If it's a HS mob, they HT. As such, they're flagged as SK's and just don't have any spells loaded into their arsenal. SK = Manapool = Successful ToT

Hope that helps.

Yeah it is a HS mob and that explanation makes sense then. Thanks for clearing it up :)

All skeletons in HS are Shadowknights and therefore have mana to ToT.

In place like HS, Seb or Chardok, having ToT on the bar is a must. In place like Velk (if you're fighting spiders), it's useless to have it memmed.

They harmtouch, so they are considered SKs even though they don't cast spells.

ToT is so amazing that you should have it memmed any time there are even a low number of casters around. Used on cooldown, it provides like double the mana regen that c2 does, and it's a short cooldown too so you can pull off really long, mana-intensive fights by using ToT a couple times in the middle of it, etc.

Hey Tecmos, any plans on making more enchanter videos soon?

Theft of Thought is the reason that no 50+ enchanter has ever been below 50% mana.

ToT is basically mandatory in any zone that has casters.

can also duel the bard in your group and just use it on them if you are in an area with no casters.

unless they changed that, ive been inactive for some time.

I've had enchanter buddies duel my shaman and bard for ToT purposes. Also helpful when malo wears off, or they need to AFK since you can root the pet before it breaks.

Make sure they have some MR though, or you'll be catching them in AE stuns (and even AE mezzes if they aren't 56+). Plus their offensive AE spells will try to hit you, then your pet will try to kill them, etc.

Basically always keep it member unless the chance of you fighting is caster is close to 0.
It's pretty much an instant 350 mana every minute and a half and that's invaluable if applicable, which it generally is.

yea, add that allure staff from VP and there is no reason for an enchanter to ever sit, ever.

I might do some more videos, but I can't make any promises. I haven't had the slightest urge since my last ones ~6 months ago, and with summer here it doesn't seem too likely that will change in the near future... lol.

Maybe though! :p

you can mem spells using your spellcasting keybinds.

Haha, I've been given this advice before. Haven't gotten around to trying to break this old habit yet though :)
