Looking for advice on how to keep mobs at even health when charming. When my pet is losing in health I usually slow the other mob, but I don't know what to do when my pet is way higher in health.

Root the mob you're fighting, break charm, mez old pet, charm low-hp mob.
If the low-hp mob is slowed, can also dispell it before.

Also if you're fighting different kinds of mobs, learn which ones are weaker so you know which to charm.

In that case I would just make him kill a few more mobs until he's low enough to nuke and kill.

you can spam /pet back and he will only attack when the opponent attacks

Do you need to stand close to them fighting so he doesn't just run back to you? I keep the mob I'm killing rooted incase of charm break.
