I was discussing with a friend about when after Kunark release certain sky items got their upgrades. I believe that it was pretty shortly after release. Anyone know exactly?

JULY 19, 2000
Items:
* Increased stats on many Plane of Sky items.
This was the same patch when they implemented this:
Keyed Dungeons:
The key for Charasis (Howling Stones) is now NODROP per the patch message from a couple of weeks ago. Furthermore, when your character dies, keys for Charasis, Sebilis, and Veeshan's Peak, will no longer remain with your corpse, but will instead return with your character to its bind point. We made this change to reduce the difficulty and corpse-loss potential of these zones, and eliminate the need to do the key quests multiple times.
Long story short, the upgrades happen a month after VoX and Naggy get the level 52 cap implemented and roughly a month before the outdoor dragons go live in Kunark.

I really really hope the keys start out soulbound, otherwise this is going to be an absolute shit show for months.

Risk versus reward. You want to be there before everyone else, you just have to deal with it. I say stick with the timeline!
I mean imagine the first bastards on classic who had to find this stuff out the hard way? And how long did it take for word to spread throughout the raiding community on all the live servers? We at least have the knowledge ahead of time so there is no real excuse.

Right, and the only reason it was revamped is due to unforeseen corpse decays that the GMs were obligated to resolve.

Yeah but think about the balancing issues involved with allowing those zones to be farmed 24/7 willy nilly for those extra months before the extra raid targets are added?
I agree that it was dumb that this happened on live but it also limited the farming of those zones because the risk was far greater.
We already know that everything in Kunark is going to be accomplished like 10 times faster than it was on live because there are no secrets left and there's nothing to figure out. Do we really need to make the game even easier?

If they couldn't manage to do an extra howling stones key or 2 in the 7 days it takes a corpse to rot the corpses probably deserved to rot to be quiet honest.

you're right, thats completely feasible to do with 500-700 people racing for the exact same key pieces.
edit: also, quite.

both of you have your points. it goes to classic vs wannabe classic..
easy button would be to soulbind the keys right off the bat. from a GM's perspective there are a lot of things already NOT classic about our server, so might as well make their lives easier by not having to hear about all the corpses that rot. or what if the key quest breaks somewhere ? poof poof corpse rots if they cant get to it within a few hours.
just sayin.
i think i'm with guineapig on this one, though, and at least for a little while, lets give it some type of edge :D

But then that goes back to the original thought that you go in there properly prepared with a solid crew as opposed to 24/7 solo framing. And if 500-700 people are farming keys chances are you will be seeing clerics, paladins and necros in the zone. If they are not a member of your guild then I guess people will just have to start playing nice.
It's really not much different then getting killed in Sky right now other then people get keyed 1 at a time as opposed to 24 at a time.
I stand by my original thought that things should not be made easier for the sake of the power gamers.

In that case the ability to maintain aggro on mobs while invulnerable should be removed early as well... for balancing reasons of course.
Here's the thing, I know you are saying "for the sake of the GMs" but I think what you really mean is "for my sake".

Know what isn't classic though? 4-5 GMs managing 1k+ people, so... I don't know where you're going with this, but sometimes in the real world we make compromises.

You are correct, sometimes compromises should be made.
Like the fact that invulnerability agro wasn't abused on live as early on as it's being abused here? Which is why it took so long for them to nerf it? Perhaps the nerf needs to happen early for that reason? As a compromise?
When you look at posts about DA'd people keeping aggro circa 1999-2000 people were actually complaining about it, not bragging about how OP it was. It wasn't until people thought of ways to gain massive aggro before becoming invulnerable and using it to trivialize content that the developers had to step in and put a stop to it.
You can't have it both ways. Let's be strict here but not there, let's be lenient here but not there. I'm just saying. How much easier do you want things to be for you? It just ends up making the server look bad.

That topic is such a soft spot for me, guilds that pride themselves on doing more with less and racing other guilds for the challenge are perma camping an item that takes the difficulty out of raid content. Lost all credibility as far as I am concerned. Sorry to derail

Know what also isn't classic? 4 months of forced sky progression due to an expansionless time period.
^ No dig at devs whatsoever, moreso identification of why we now raid out of necessity i.e da tanking our way through sky.

Don't pull the guild card on me. I never mentioned a guild name and this has nothing to do with guild rivalries. That's BS man.
I have seen another guild or two farming totems too and I am not naming their names either.
Not that you care but I exp group with people from DA, IB, TMO, DW, DOZ, PP, VD etc.. (you name it) all the damn time. I don't discriminate.

Here's what I came up with so far:
Rheumguls
Rotted Griffon-Hide Wrist Guard
Elder Shaman's Ceremonial Bracelet
Sphinx-Hide Mantle
Aerated Pauldrons
Darkwood Aegis
Crimson Ring of Desinence (renamed Vermilion Sky Ring)
Transparent Mask
Spiroc Healer's Cloak
Songweaver's Mantle
Theurgist
Ebonsting
Crimson Ring of Desinence
An example of how things change:
BEFORE:
Songweaver's Mantle
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO TRADE
Slot: SHOULDERS
Charges: 5
AC: 9
DEX: +7 CHA: +5 AGI: +5
Effect: Fury
AFTER
Mantle of the Songweaver
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO TRADE
Slot: SHOULDERS
Charges: 5
AC: 9
STR: +7 DEX: +7 CHA: +5 AGI: +5
SV MAGIC: +5
Effect: Fury

The list of Sky items and their upgrades on the Wiki is pretty darn accurate:
http://wiki.project1999.org/index.php/Plane_of_Sky
You can probably verify any given item pretty easily via Alla.

I don't think DA tanking worked on live like it does now on P99.... From SoE's own mouth, they had to return how debuffs(like a slow clicky)worked when the mobs HPs started going into the hundred-thousands. Because the aggro from said buffs was based on the max HPs a mob had.
Shrug, prove it one way or the other.

i clearly remember those sky-upgrades went live some days after kunark launch.
my word should be proof enough so lets end this speculations and just patch them upgrades on 25th march. our limited dev ressources shouldnt be wasted for such issues!!!!

Maybe the Dev's can make Bzzzt Bzzzt double for 850 instead of quad (like he's supposed to) so we can go back to Tanking with a CH chain then....
