Question about DE Enchanter

Does a Dark Elf Enchanter keep their ultravision even after casting illusion?

Nope.

But worn or cast vision buff will work. If none - you get the vision of the race you turned into.

No big deal as there is seldom a reason to go erudite, human or barb form.

Gnome form is fine for all good cities, iksar (somewhat) good for Cabilis, DE or troll for evil cities.

Also how come I can't order my pet to do anything (the animations)? All the command buttons are greyed out.

Ironically, enchanters simply can't control their own pets (animations). You won't miss them past level 12, though.

I do not necessarily agree regarding animation usefulness. Sure, it cannot really tank. But, if you haste it, you can have yourself a nice fear kite option when charming is not ideal (available mobs to charm, etc).

Animations are pretty good for farming some greens and light blues when you just want to do it semi-AFK, such as farming shadowed men for that Alliance clicky wand.
