I know a lot of monks I've talked say black panther is overrated. What alternative buyable gear would a knowledgeable monk get? With a budget of less than 50k (not including a fungi). I already have a SoS and addy club on my 22 monk

My guide (http://wiki.project1999.com/Meviin%27s_Monk_Mechanics#Gearing) has a list of some gear that might be interesting.

There are some slots where Black Panther is reasonable because some slots don't have many good mid-range items that are tradeable (eg, legs, boots, shoulders). In some cases, there are items that are better and cheaper than black panther (eg, Azure Sleeves). If your budget is 50k, though, and you already have a fungi, haste, and weapons, then you can pretty much get the best mid range items in every slot.

Don't worry too much about gear. If you have a Fungi, Addy Club, SoS, and haste, you'll be good until your 50s. I leveled using cured silk that I tailored myself, two Trace Sticks, and a Wu's Quivering Staff.

Prob gonna use this as a wish list. Thank you.

I'm returning after a year hiatus. Going to try out a monk as a 2nd char (leveled an enchanter 1-59 as my first).

Any advice?

Not sure what kind of advice u need but feel free to ask. It's pretty straight forward I'd get fungi>haste>weapons>rest of gear. Then u can solo fob/kurns 1-20 upper/lower guk 21-40 sol b 40-60. Then just group whenever if u get bored soloing.

I'm having a hard time getting under the weight limit.

Most of my gear matches your list. Using IFS and JM / SoS.

I have lionhide and shralok bags...minimal plat on my character...and I can't seem to get below 25 burden.

Get rid of the lionhide and shralok packs and just use a large soiled bag until you hit mid 50s then get yourself a tink bag or two.

You don't have the tolerance for a lot of bags until you hit 50+.

Carry as little money as possible. I liked to fight within a zone or two from a vendor that sells some kind of gem. That way when I get a lot of plat I would run over to the zone and buy stacks of the gems. Sro is the perfect place for this. The vendor in the top corner near the Oasis zone sells gems and bandages.

Save your money for MQs of Velious armor

Terrible idea. Most of that shit is outclassed by cheap all/all gear or has awful stats.

SS monk gear is actually BiS until you start getting raid drops in a lot of slots...

Depends on what you're gearing for. If you're pulling you want max AC/HP and most of that gear has shit AC. If you're gearing for resists you won't be using that junk either. It's worth it to get a bracer for the shurikens but otherwise save your money for a fungi or cof.

So velious gear isnt good because you need multiple sets of gear as a monk?

It's not worth spending money on over more important things. Also if you have the faction and gems for the armor presumably you can just join a guild to get the pieces yourself.

There's a lot of monk gear worth buying and velious mqs are near the bottom of the list.
