They both have 36% haste yet the CoCW is 20k cheaper. Any reason I see an overwhelming majority of people looking for a CoF over the CoCW? On top of that their is many more CoF's on the server than CoCW's. Just curious to hear people's reasoning for spending 20k more on the CoF.

it embarrassing for monks to have mana on their armor when they could have hp. It reminds them of their magical impotency.

When stacking minuscule improvements - yes.
Take a Velium Fire Wedding Ring (65hp, 450p) vs Djarn's Amethyst Ring (80hp, 6k). The high price comes from three things: 1) Items like CoF and Djarn's are only replaced with some high end raid items, 2) all those small hp boosts spread across 20 inventory items add up, and 3) People have plat to burn from farming Kunark for 5 years.

Cof is just way better
Cocw is basically haste and useless stats while cof has good stats

Upgrades become less cost-effective as a player's equipment improves. If a player's wearing junk he can upgrade a cutthroat ring to a 5/55 ring for what, a few hundred platinum? Once that same player has a full set of nice things a 50 hit point upgrade might set him back tens of thousands. That's the nature of the game.

And 5% haste is worth 40k and 15% haste is worth 80k. FBSS turns a 20 delay weapon into a 16.53 delay weapon where a CoF turns it into a 14.7 delay weapon. It's worth it if you can afford it and the plat isn't spendable in better ways for other things (buying a faster weapon is often quite a bit cheaper and more effective than buying more haste), but when you've filled everything else and that upgrade is still available, 50hp is worth 20k and 15% haste is worth 80k.
Though for 10k, you could gear up any class well enough to take you to 60 and still be effective all around and then you'd be in a position to simply loot a CoF.

I would consider CoCW arguably (key word) a better item for rangers/paladins than CoF.
Having some extra mana on a hybrid isn't a bad career choice esp if you're keeping that 36% haste that melees need.

This.
In EQ (especially classic static server EQ) the extremely minor upgrades at the top end of the gear food chain are EXTREMELY expensive for the minor marginal boost they give.
20k for 50hp is actually a pretty good deal compared to the cost of similarly comparable slots for their upgrades.

Naw. It's overrated. I spent years watching people lose their mind over junk like dragon hero bracers, etc, etc. Yeah for the timeline, 50 hp is pretty good... but you're buying a haste item. Rest of the stats make zero difference. If you can save a considerable bit of plat getting the primary stat that matters in the game for a melee, I'd say go for it.

The nice thing is there's no wrong answer. You can build a character on the cheap that has probably eighty or ninety per cent the power of one decked out in expensive droppables. On the other hand, you might as well buy the expensive stuff if you happen to have nothing you'd rather spend the platinum on. Cash in the bank does a player no good, and in most cases (haste items for sure) you can always re-sell later. Such items can be regarded more as a rental than a permanent cash sink.

it would annoy the crap out of me as a pure melee to wear a cloak with 50 mana on it when it could ( and should ) be 50 hps
the end.

That's what I have noticed too, it seems people really can get hung up on one particular item to the point they will even neglect other slots that could be upgraded just to try to fit one particularly expensive item onto their toon.
I don't think it's worth pouring your savings into one item like a COF. The only item I view that might be worth it would be a fungi tunic. I have seen nearly naked toons wearing a fungi and decent weapons only, and they do quite well. The regen on a fungi tunic is quite powerful.

Haste/regen/weapon are about the only worthwhile things to spend money on in P99. Everything else is literally borderline meaningless.

Pretty much.
It'd be fun to start a challenge, like the Solo Artist's Challenge, only call it the Cheapskate Challenge and see who can create the most effective builds with only 10k. Rank it on things like HP, AC, Mana, ATK, DPS depending on class.

I'd get both and consider it a one time respec charge. I usually run dps spec.

PS - some nerds spend 100s of hrs trying to get "Best in Slot Gear" that only makes a tiny difference in their individual toon strength. Even at minimum wage, these same nerds could be making thousands of dollars.

False.
For an iksar monk, the +SV cold is better to have than the hp. An ice comet resist can save your life... +50 hp isn't going to do shit.
