Thanks for sharing Yak might check it out the podcast although im not really interested in Rift. Checked out all I needed to see im happy oldschool gaming. The community looks to be pretty immature lots of kiddys are flocking from wow to this. PVP is pretty meaningless, it holds your hand to much just like alot of other newer games etc etc. The only thing diffrent I see about the game that doesent draw from other games is the fact that theres more customization in classes in some way, and that dungeons are done a little difrrent. The UI is pretty cookie cutter as well. Just my 2 copper.

You just have to give this game a chance. It is the first pay to play in a long time that feels like a complete game. PVP is done very well and the ability to one class and be all the sub classes is just awesome!

Keep in mind people are currently playing for free.

Not sure what you mean by that as P1999 is free.

I mean it results in a lot of idiots screaming at each other, which was one of muddy's complaints.

The same can be said for here.

After Beta is over and the game launches, the "kiddies" will quiet down.

I've tried this game and don't understand the appeal. Seems like a much less polished version of WoW

I would at least try the game out and give it a chance the problem is ive been burnt to many times plopping down money on a new game also not to mention its a new company with no past history at least that im aware of. Also dont have time to play 2 mmos at once, like it here to much.

Everyone on the team has launched at least one other MMO, and a lot of them have been playing since EQ at least... so there's a bit of "street cred", I suppose.

Beta has been quite fun so far. It has elements of WoW/Warhammer, sure, but it's got the feel of an older generation MMO in a lot of ways (if you can look past the generic UI). The Rifts and Invasions are a blast to play. There is a system in place for Public Grouping where you basically run up to the Rift/Invasion and click a button to join the others who are there fighting it (this is an optional system you can turn off on your own end or on the group's end so people can't join if you don't want them to). It works really well, I think. There are some paradigm differences from a game like EQ where it's really about you and your clique and getting to everything first. It's a lot more cooperative, and the rewards system is based on your effort.

It's not just about DPS either, healing is counted toward your total contribution as well, so you can get rewards as a pure healer sitting back and keeping everyone alive. It ends up being pretty fair from what I've experienced.

All in all, I'm enjoying the crap out of the game and can't wait until this weekend when Beta 6 opens.

So I know I said I wouldnt try out Rifts but I did and started playing Beta 6 my gameplay lasted but a day and I couldnt take it anymore and uninstalled. Here is my review:

Spent from 10am till 9pm downloading and installing the game yesterday never having played before untill Beta 6. Logged in and rolled on the Guardian side got to lvl 10 and logged. Woke up this morning rolled Defiant got to lvl 10 helped seal some Rifts and PVPed thru Warfronts a little bit. This is my thoughts and review on the game. Its polished and the graphics are really nice, also the soul tree is pretty nice but thats about it.

The game is way to easy I didnt need a single group while playing the whole time, the more and more these newer games come out the more and more I think its destroying this genre. If I wanted a solofest game id easily install and play one of the great classic games instead like Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights or Baulders Gate. There was no challenge. Even in Warfronts I see its the same Blizzard/Warhammer route thats been done before. I noticed alot of similarities between this and a few other games mainly World of Warcraft including Icons, Colors, UI look and design, Ghosting at death. There is no real penalty at death and I think thats lame. Coming from great games like Everquest, Dark Ages of Camelot, Ultima Online and Darkfall im inclined to uninstall this game and never look back, and its exactly what I just did. What ever happened to grouping? non instanced pvp? and open world dungeons? and also challenge and some kind of real death penalty? I see its the same tried and true formula used on the newschool mmo players thats all been done before.

This is just my take on it, whoever has fun with the game I wish you luck. I just need something more than what Rifts offers and I see I must look elsewere for that. I need meaningful gameplay and challenge. (also the quests on both sides Guardian and Defiant are exactly the same just slightly diffrent, and the game holds your hand to much) And the community is really immature as well. I clicked on my combat tab for a while to watch damage and a few hours later clicked back and the first word I saw was pubes and wow this and wow that and immature kids talking up a storm. Theres only 3 races per side! and now with the racials your basically forced into a certain race depending on your class. No thanks ill pass on this crap title.

Most MMO's are very easy to get to level 10. You didn't give the game more then 2 hours, 3 tops of your time. This isn't EQ Classic, so get it over it. Epic Fail in your review!

It's a good game but I played it already. It feels like warhammer meets AoC

played the beta myself in december and i have to agree to above points. the game is way to linear and imo primarily tries to accomodate wow-minded people
