Hello everyone.

Ive been playing for a tiny bit. Trying each class to see what I liked and enjoy about the game. I picked Cleric last night as the one I want to seriously level. But I am worried about making money. I had a cleric on live during Luclin and remember never soloing.

How do Clerics make money?
How important is gear? I get the feeling im gonna be naked until high level.
Is finding groups okay while leveling?

Welcome!

Clerics make money like anybody else. Collect bone chips early on, later maybe lightstones or some other stuff... there are a lot of threads about this, search them.

Gear for a cleric is not *that* important. You will want wisdom gear and hit points won't hurt either. But even a naked cleric is very usefull for a group. If you want to solo, you might want a decent weapon in the early levels. Later it's just undead nuking, that's really the only option for a solo cleric. But you shouldn't have problems finding groups, at all levels past 5.

I made most of my money just by leveling in normal groups where there was semi-ok vendor trash and occasional greed roll tunnel sellables. That being said, It was not particularly expensive to end up WIS-capped and focusing on +mana gear.

I still had 1 or 2 cloth pieces on into my early 50's and it did not make a noticeable difference in xp groups. It was usually pretty easy finding a group as well.

My first character was a druid - all his money leveling up went to spells so he was all but naked until his 30s when ports enabled me to get him some gear.

My second character was a cleric. She had really basic wis gear (like +3 to +5 stuff) until she started raiding 45 or so. I was able to do just fine. You might have to ask for mana breaks slightly more often then a nice twinked out cleric but that's far from the end of the world. Getting an epic'd cleric is the most rewarding thing I've done in EQ. It's worth the effort.

money doesn't really start rolling in until low 20's unless you start in the qeynos area. places like SolA and permafrost have great fine steel drops along with minor gems that can net you a few hundred plat over a couple of hours.

Obtaining leveling gear on this server is very easy. Kill some black bears and sell their High Quality pelts in EC for 30p each, sell bone chips at 10p a stack turn in or sell GLS' at 10p each. By level 14 you can have a full suit of banded armor, and some cheap wis weapon/jewelry. That's not including stuff that will likely get handed to you by strangers.

Later on, as a cleric you will always have groups. You will be able to loot dungeon drops to resell and make a good chunk of change that way. All you have to do is sit, stand and cast, sit, stand and loot, and profit.

Good luck on your adventures!

Oh and please post your characters name and race

Clerics make money only slowly at low levels. At upper levels they're about mid-range. Starting from level 49 you can make some money rezzing people. In addition the class can duo very well with Enchanters and duo-farm just about any group content in the game, including a great many valuable cash camps.

Clerics are moderately dependent on equipment. They benefit from having a larger mana pool, and like having health and resist just as much as anyone else. However, a poorly-geared Cleric is less a detriment to his group than, say, a poorly-geared Warrior. During the leveling phase of the game levels are typically more important than equipment; a level 55 Cleric in lousy gear is generally better than a decked out 46. Odds are most your money will go to spells for quite awhile. Don't fret too much about equipment; P1999 is a very old server and basic equipment that'll suffice for a long time can be obtained cheaply.

The Cleric is popular in groups, with the caveat that most groups want ONE cleric and no more. If you go to a dungeon and the groups present already have the positions filled, you can expect to sit around LFG for awhile. This is true of every class, as nobody can expect to immediately find groups every time.

Clerics are a good duo class with a smart enchy. Bad solo class for a caster but not the worst. Terrible money class. Be an enchy.

Clerics duo well with nearly any class. Splitting loot 50/50 is always a good thing, in p99 and in life.

CLR/ENC is the mecca..

CLR/MAG allows the cleric to lull pull and CH a dmg-shielded jobaber for good times.

CLR/NEC = fear kite mana, or heal pet. Necros appreciate your HP buffs more than almost any other class lol.

CLR/Wiz = can stun-lock/nuke just about anything. Or root nuke.

CLR/Ranger = ghetto fear kite. Track! Eventually SOW!

CLR/Warr = mob dies from old age, but dies nonetheless!

Those are some of the basic examples. The only classes clerics don't help much is Druid (Fear/kite means a lot less with shitty DOTs and no pet) and SHM (minimal dps + minimal dps = minimal dps)

Bottom line is this : Clerics don't sit around LFG unless they are literally sitting in Sebilis at entrance in off-peak hours.

Use Duos and Trios to your advantage. It's so easy to find.. say, a ranger or wizard or something.. And kill something safely in a duo.. and then add in a tank.. or a mage... and before you know it you have a full group.

Or just stay in a duo and be a loot whore. Some clerics refuse to heal anything besides pets and charm pets. I was one of them more often than not. It worked out great. :)

It's fun to push your luck with duos. Really strongest duos take advantage of complete healing and hp buffs

Here are a few items to look for in xp zones as you level up, just for fun. As a cleric you really don't need to worry too much about your equipment. Being selective with your spell use to minimise mana expenditure and aggro gained while maximising ticks spent medding will give a far bigger boost than + mana (which only lets you med longer before being full mana, and thereafter have a larger reserve of mana in case the shin hits the fat).

Again, don't worry if you end up filling you slots with cloth/rawhide/chain/bronze (My cleric wore mesh from guk until around level 40). The most important thing is to heal and med. If you're a super cleric you may even interrupt some spells with stuns or root mezzed mobs to help the enc keep control. Just make sure you aren't at the top of the aggro list as you are meant to be healing, not taking damage!

Complete heal is incredibly powerful. If you are able to avoid aggro, you can start grouping in Karnor's Castle really early. My stable group's cleric started there at 41! Lots of items that drop there are worth 10s or even 100s of pp to vendors. Some are worth even more to players.

Sorry if these thoughts are a little incoherent, but I've been back and forth from the keyboard.
