View Full Version : SRo AC FTE clarification

Just looking for some quick clarification on the FTE rules as they relate to the AC in SRo, per a scenario that occurred about an hour ago. This felt a little "gray" to me, so I'd like to know for sure, should something like this ever happen again.
AC popped, and the closest person to him didn't realize it, as he was on the other side of a dune. Being a DRU, I got track up, threw up Spirit of the Cheetah, and took off after him. A third individual must have seen me take off like lightning and made chase. I made it within casting range and began... or so I thought... to cast Engorging Roots. Unfortunately, my mouse has been acting up recently, and the associated hotkey doesn't always fire unless firmly pressed. In the heat of the moment, I had completely forgotten about this, and only realized I wasn't actually casting after a good second or so. Tried again, failed again. Third time was the charm, though!
At this point I had been visibly standing in front of AC for a good 2 seconds, and visibly casting for around half of that. Obviously attempting to engage. The third individual shows up with a Wand of Frost Bolts (instacast nuke) and manages to get a clicky off about half a second before my cast completed.
My impression of the rules are that first damage is more important than obvious intent, at least as it pertains to a randomspawn like the AC. Is this correct, or should I have attempted to contest the spawn? I was fortunate enough to snag a kill yesterday around this time as well to finally get a buddy of mine a pair of Jboots, so I was content in just letting this one go without much of a fuss (although I was quick to let the guy know how fortunate he was that Razer is my brand of choice in gaming peripherals. Maybe not for too much longer.)

Damage is irrelevant. FTE just requires agro, first. Could have made mob hit you or w/e. If the other guy got agro first, you lost. Sorry.

Ahh, agro it is then. Noted for the future, thanks all.
... and yea, Razer Naga here as well. This is actually the second one I've had to develop problems. Typically it presents itself as pressing the button twice, rather than not at all, but as of the last couple of days that is what it has become. I gave it a couple solid flicks with my finger after this incident and it's functioning noticeably better. Might just be something in there gunking up the switch this time, rather than whatever causes the double-press.

I like to hotkey a root net for situations like this.
I like to just run up and let them start hitting me and then run out of range before I start casting :)

I've had 3 Razer mice, first was a Diamondback which I really liked. Had that same phantom double-click crap happen with both of the Nagas I owned. I'm on about 4 years with this Logitech G400s and still going strong. Never buying Razer anything again.

Yea, it seems the doubleclick issue is a fairly common complaint among the Naga line. I would love to give something else a try, but I have a very difficult time imagining a world in which I'm not glued to a Naga. I use the thumbpad for just about everything. All 12 buttons. It's compulsory at this point.
Maybe I'll give the G600 a try next. I was a Logitech man before the Naga came out, and was never too thrilled with their products, but never really had major problems with them either. Realistically, I guess I can't complain too much about the Naga, though... hell, they've been around for something like 8 years now, and I've only owned two.

Oh my bad it was Deathadders I had, not Nagas. I dont understand how anybody needs or can effectively manage a dozen goddamn mouse buttons o_oIt's certainly daunting at first. Took me a solid week to get used to it enough to be able to use all the buttons effectively. As I said, though... I can't even fathom the idea of using a mouse with less buttons today.
I've just always hated keyboards for gaming. Never made a lick of sense to me, having that many necessary keys that far away from where your hand rests. In addition to the Naga, I've also been using a gamepad for about as long as I can remember. Literally wore the silicone membrane of my first Nostromo N52 out to the point of tearing. Using a Razer Orbweaver today, but I much preferred the fewer buttons of the N52 (or what Razer is now calling the Tartarus.)

How can you camp a random spawn? It literally spawns at a random spot or it doesnt spawn. No PH to "camp"

This sounds like every pull on Rathe giants. You basically leave EQ and enter a toxic WoW community when you go there. It is amazing how many level 55+ losers show up and just take all the spawns. I know if they were better players they would be at sea furies or killing better mobs so I kind of feel bad for them.

If you think things are petty at Hill giants I'm confused why you'd think Seafuries would be any better.

Huh? I've never played an instanced game. And they never beat me to a spawn because staff of temp flux instant aggro.
If I'm doing the same thing to farm plat at 55 as people do at 45 then I might reconsider my routine. That's all.
I know where the spawns start at and have instant click aggro. Plus hard to KS wizard. Still annoying when they send their epic pet to beat on a rooted, snared, and damaged mob. Defend it if you will.

There is a PH to camp. On live you could camp the AC in South Ro because of lists and mutual respect but here you have dedicated 60 AC farming alts camped in South Ro on a permanent basis who will try to FTE.
One of the issues that make it unclassic is its still much easier to camp than on live. On live there was no known time frame, no known ph's, no known 33.xx timer that you could track.
If they wanted to model the 'experience' rather than the hard unknown mechanics it should be rewritten to be completely unknown like it was on live.
Would result in less farming as like live you'd have to sit in South Ro both day and night till you got it, not exp during the day log on at night and farm.

There is a PH. If there was no PH you could simply sit there and wait for him to spawn randomly. You have to kill the PH, its a timed and known set and spawns on a specific and known timer - it simply doesn't have a static spawn point.

actually the way it works here is in fact with no PH, just a chance for him to spawn at night.

I was under the impression that it was first player to get on the aggro list of a mob was the 'FTE'. So starting cast a spell doesn't count, but landing a spell, body aggro, etc do.
Is that correct?

Out dated info. Now it just spawns at 9pm regardless of what you may have been doing to other mobs in the zone.

At 9PM there will be a random spawn from a list. 10% of the time it will be the AC, the other 90% of the time basically the normal S Ro trash.
So you can guess if AC didn't spawn by whether something else spawned at 9pm.
I did once kill an AC, when I got a tell from an angry 30 something saying it was their main, they had been killing PHs for ages. I explained them they (and the wiki) were wrong, how it works now and let them loot the ring anyway. This kind of thing makes a bigger difference to such a person than for my nth alt. Like even if they were lieing about their 30 being their main, their sperg out meant they deserved it to me. Hopefully he spergs out every time he doesn't get his way after I reinforced this behaviour :D
Red stories: First attempt at AC I was winning against an in range SK, but an out of range druid came along and basically turned the battle. Later, a Thunderdome just MQd me one for free. It's swings and roundabouts on Red, I guess.

First, I didn't actually realize he used an insta until I had already conceded the kill, and he linked the item in chat. I just assumed Cheetah got me there quickly enough that I didn't have to worry about competition (he spawned in a corner) and then promptly squandered that advantage in using Razer. When I saw someone else's spell effect go off, I just assumed it was a full cast.
Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, after having previously conned the guy, I knew he was 60. I wasn't winning that burn race even if I had tried.
Finally, my gut feeling was that FTE rules said I was the loser here. Indeed, it appears they are... just not exactly in the way I assumed.

Most likely they didn't know what they were doing was useless.
It was actually a single placeholder for a long time on p99. They changed it the current state a few years ago. No clue if there is a reason they don't make it the classic spawn for him. I'm sure they know what it is, it's one of the most well known mystery spawns that we have a definitive answer to.

Yeah must have been looking for something elseThis does still require the associated keybind to be functional, and that was the problem here. I did a quick Alt+3 to cast Engorging Roots, as it was the fastest casting spell I had mem'd. Unfortunately, that day the 3 key on my Razer Naga was acting up, and not recognizing clicks from time to time. Two of those times just happened to be when I was trying to engage AC.
All the same, that's not a half bad idea with the macro.

I had the same experience. I really liked the Nagas but neither lasted much more than a year due to the same click problems. I went with the Logitech about three years ago and it has been rock solid and has a superior feeling to it. That's not to say that the Nagas felt cheap. I still prefer my Razer Lycosa over any other gaming keyboards simply for the feel of it. It's nearly 8 years old and I'll probably cry when the day comes that I have to put it to rest.
The double clicking problem on my Razer could be temporarily fixed by taking it apart and cleaning the actual buttons under the outer shell every couple months, at least for my Death Adder. In doing this there was a ribbon cord that was soldered to the pcb that would flex every time the mouse got assembled/disassembled and eventually broke off. I probably could have fixed that too, the soldering looked super easy, I was just sick of the thing by that point. Worth considering at least if you don't have a spare mouse or are waiting for a new one and don't care about the Naga and want a quick fix.
