Man, am I the only one who watches YouTube videos of this game just to remind myself of how awesome it was!? It honestly feels like 15 years ago..if not more. I'll never forget the day my mom picked me up velious from the store. I love this idea, and am seriously considering getting back in. Are there a lot of players still!?

So I've looked on amazon, and read quite a bit about to how access the game. I don't want t do anything "illegal" or frowned upon, but is it absolutely required to pay the $140 on amazon for titanium? I understand this may seem to stupid to ask publicly, but I genuinely don't know the way to download it!

I see the population dip to around 6-700 frequently, but that's usually around 2am PDT. Even then, there are groups rolling everywhere, at all levels. But yeah, the pop is usually 1k to 1500.

This game sold tons of copies and plenty are out there without paying retail for a new copy. You dont need a key code to access this server since its free and public. You probably already paid retail for this game as well as kunark and velious back in 1999.
It took me two days of messing around before I got p99 properly installed. Since then, almost two years later, I have not had to do anything at all but run a few patches which are a two step process.
Plenty of people, come get in on this.

If you aren't going to torrent it then no, there isn't another way to get the files. Unless you convince someone to burn the files for you and send them to you.

Console yourself with the knowledge that you probably already paid more in subscription fees back in the day... and that they give away a more advanced client for free nowadays. Go for the easy option, they practically owe you at this point.

The lowest I've seen so far was about 700 online and that was at like 3-4am PST. So usually a pretty decent population, even in the wee hours of the morning.

Iirc there used to be a "Getting Started" section that had links to everything needed... Granted this was years ago when I got into P99... Theres really no "legitimate" method to dling Titanium other than those mentioned here, and if your totally against that idea...someone mentioned finding someone with a copy and having them burn it for you etc... put yo feelers out there

You're not pirating anything if you're backing up software you've already paid for. That's the entire reason why that sort of thing remains available.

Just torrent it, it's old software that is not available to buy new. DB has said that they don't care about the distribution of old versions. If you need help PM me

This is a free to play game now anyway, torrenting it wouldn't be illegal. Especially if you already paid for EQ in the past.
Also, do you really think the 3000+ people that play on this server actually paid for titanium? I know I sure didn't.

If torrenting EQ isn't illegal than why is it forbidden to discuss using that method for obtaining it on the forums? In fact, I'm kind of surprised mods didn't delete the posts mentioning torrenting, they used to.

I don't think buying it on Ebay is technically "legal", either. I don't typically torrent things myself but in certain circumstances it makes sense. In this case there is no true legit method to obtain it anymore. The game is now free to play (which is why you can't buy it legit anymore). If you played during live you already purchased the content plus subs. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Because it literally does not matter at all. If it makes you feel any better, go buy it off eBay and give your money away for no reason.

I assume that mods care less because Daybreak is in charge of EQ now, not SOE.

It is not illegal to download a copy of a piece of software that you have the proof of purchase for or have registered your copy with the company, and the company no longer makes that particular software piece available for sale. In the particular case of MMO's, a bank record statement of your paying for a subscription to the game during the time frame the software was in use is sufficient.
It's not piracy if it's protected by consumer trade law.
