This is the first modern PC build I am doing. I have already put all the parts in a list but I feel that I can do with a better cpu. If someone could look this list over I would be grateful.

I see several glaring issues with this:

1) Your GPU is 3 generations older than current without much price savings. If you are really trying to slash costs, you can find some great deals on used but much newer GPUs on ebay
2) You lack a solid state drive which is going to massively slow down general system speed
3) AMD processors for the past 5+ years have been pretty anemic, and the current memory standard is DDR4 which is not really any more expensive than DDR3 and not supported by this CPU. I'd go with Intel, and I say this as a previous AMD fanboy of sorts. I have an AMD FX-8350 in my current PC.

While EVGA is a reputable PSU brand, I would recommend getting something that is at least Bronze+ certified. You don't want to go dirt cheap on a PSU because a faulty one has the potential to fry your other components if it fails.

I'd check out this particular build as a starting point: https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/vpMnTW/entry-level-gaming-build

Look around at some other budget build guides on PCpartpicker or Tomshardware.com and tailor according to your budget. If I was building a budget gaming PC right now though, 2 absolute musts for me regardless of budget would be an Intel CPU and Solid State Drive. It's hard to overstate how much faster an SSD is going to make your system compared to a physical disk drive.

Bet you're looking forward to the day Mac software support joins the 21st century :D Nobody who's budget-conscious, as the op clearly is, has any business looking at Macs

AMD stuff is cheaper and is good enough for gaming. A fully decked out intel PC is overkill and a waste of money. A good enough amd rig would cost around 400$ if you build it yourself.

Also, nothing wrong with using DDR3 ram. DDR4 means a more expensive mobo and processor.

Wasn't suggesting fully decked-out anything. In absolute terms, AMD is cheaper it's true, but on the bell curve of price-to-performance efficiency it's far to the left.

I mean if all you're gonna play is 17 year old elfsims, by all means get yourself a 200 dollar Netbook and it will run passably, but if you hope to play anything released in the current decade you're doing yourself a shortsighted disservice by skimping on another 50 bucks to get an AMD machine over Intel.

i3-6100/mobo/128ssd/case+power supply isnt much more, then pay w/e you want for a graphics card. yes i3 is dual core, but its hyperthreaded, so 4 threads still. imo best budget cpu unless the new kabby lake 7350k ends up overclocking well as its gonan be ~140$ range i hear, could be the best bang for the buck cpu.

edit as other user said. intel donkey flops on amd atm. and i want amd to be good.

True but performance is capped by what video game your playing. Most intel stuff is overkill for this generation of video games. 60 fps is the what your after and amd does that.

games are relative, try running dolphin or cemu on amd. its regrettable.

AMD's whole marketing shtick the last couple iterations was "look at all these cores zomg so many cores you're not gonna believe how many cores we got!"

The problem is, individually each core is muuuuch weaker than those found in an Intel CPU, and the vast majority of games including Everquest use a single core.

ding ding, correct answer. i mean if i did a ton of vmware id get amd tho, and assign each instance to a thread.

I'm not debating which is better. I'm saying amd is good enough for gaming and cheaper. If your not worried about cost than intel would be the way to go.

my point was its not much difference, and the performance is worth, you can get that for ~300-400 what i listed.

oh no. intel processor means intel mobo means nvidia gpu. The cost will add up and be substantially more than an amd variant.

You said no amd stuffs so that means nvidia. I knew enough to build mine and I'm happy with it.

he clearly ment amd cpu, amd graphics are fine. infact i really love the vulkan api. lets not derail this with non sense. as far as graphics go, both sides are fine. depends on what you are doing, OS, etc. they are equally pricey depending on how much beef you need. personally i think GTX 1050 TI is best bang for ya buck probably?

4 threads, hyperthread, atleast know what you talking about.

Not enough reviews on newegg for me to recommend it someone. Sometimes cards get bad reviews for overheating problems or low life span. So I generally only buy highly rated and highly reviewed products. But it does look good on paper.

Not sure if OP is serious as he hasn't replied yet. But here you go. Build this and thank me later. Best bang for your buck and has a ton of room to upgrade to whatever you want in the future.

Anyone suggesting AMD to you may have brain damage. Do not buy that garbage. Also, do not get anything Micro-ATX. And get a modular power supply. Was worth.

@OP: I suggest getting a GTX 1050 Ti, it costs around $140.

It is the best bang for your buck unless you want to spend a good amount more money for a 1060 6GB.

I just bought a 1050 Ti myself to replace my 750 Ti.

If you're pretty set on $100 I'd look at a GTX 1050. If you want something even cheaper (and older) that will still play EQ fine, I have a used HD 7850 I'd sell you for 60 shipped to the US

Be on look out for that 7350k it looks like it might be a serious bang for ya buck if it can OC well on air. Iirc its base is 4-4.2 which is wonderful.

Before posting this thread I had already ordered a few of the parts and it's too late to cancel. Is it worth sending them back or going with what I picked out?

When the new build first posts- enjoy the sounds smells and tastes.!?! To the fullest for complete nueral restructuring and reprogramming/rewiring - as u are now a real pc gamer at that moment .... But only if taken in correctly and with elitist intent !!!! This is very important young Jedi.

This is my free million dollar tip to u , only because u follow the path of the p1999 and the Everquest. Most info this valuable is stumbled upon- not given !!! This must make u favored with the gods i suppose.... Either way take it , it is yours.
