Whenever I attempt to connect to Project 1999 (1) or (2), I get a "your spells file is outdated" at the character selection screen. However, if I select any of the other servers such as EZ Server or some of the other ones below, I'm able to connect without this issue. It has been some time since I last played, and I remember I had characters on both (1) and (2) when I last played, so maybe that has something to do with it? I got the latest v43 files and extracted them and deleted the five requested files out of the directory. I should point out that I'm running from a base Everquest Titantium install within wine on Linux. Again everything seems to be working great except for the official P99 servers. Any ideas? It's probably something stupid... Thanks.

From a different thread, did you change the case of dsetup.dll?

I will share what i did to get eq working in Antergos.

1. Copied eq1 folder to linux
2. removed files from eq folder as per p99 website
3. When copying p99 specific files into eq folder pay attention to case sensitive files, in particular dsetup.dll! You have to rename it to DSETUP.dll
4. Get sound to work. Open terminal and enter sudo pacman -S lib32-alsa-lib lib32-alsa-plugins lib32-libpulse lib32-alsa-oss lib32-openal
5. Edit eqclient.ini and change video mode or size to fit your monitor
5a. Change windowedmode to false if you want fullscreen
5b. set refresh rate to 60

Awesome! Step 3 is what was missing. I needed to rename dsetup.dll to DSETUP.dll and all is well! Thank you!

Just a fyi if you are going to be playing on other servers then p99 red/blue you should have another copy of EQ for those servers since most of them use different files then what p99 does and will cause issues like this sometimes.
