I'm looking for some guidance on the mechanics of how this works.

I'm in ToFS on my enchanter. The 2nd level is a bunch of enchanter mobs. They occasionally charm my animation. It starts attacking me. I can recharm it, and the pet window reverts to it's prior state of only having the "Go Away" command available, despite it not being a permanent pet any longer.

If I camp out, it does appear to poof the pet, despite it no longer being my pet.

Shouldn't the pet revert back to being my pet after the NPC charm wears off it, or does it forever stay a "wild" npc from that point forward?

Yeah it stays till you kill it.
Have had Neh Ashirr (sp?) Charm an epic mage pet and keep it for the next engage

Have you tried mem blurring it while it is mad at you? Would it despawn because the NPC who charmed it died? Do you regain control? I am interested to know!

No it doesn't despawn. If an npc charms your pet, he keeps it until you kill it.
That mages pet stayed for the next people to make an attempt.

If you charm the owner of a pet, it kills the pet. If you kill the owner of a pet, then blur the pet, it will despawn.

Damn cheating NPCs. They can charm PC animations but PCs can't charm NPC animations :(
