I have a question. I know you need Titanium to play. I have played before but lost my hard drive a while back and my Titanium disc so I can't reload the game with out spending a crap ton of cash for a new one.

My question is would loading all the expansions that are on Titanium in order from their original disc from day one to the last work the same as installing just Titanium or is there something specific on the Titanium disk that is different?

Has any one tried this?

Thanks

Pretty sure that won't work. If you have to buy the discs, look for a used copy and re-sell it when you're done? Or check the internet for other options.

Wouldn't work. You essentially need to be on the exact "patch" that was put onto the Titanium CDs.

Every patch on live, they would scramble the "opcodes" that define what each packet does. Anyone analyzing the network traffic between the client and server would basically have to start from scratch to figure out that the packet for auto attack is "b84f" instead of "36a0" now, for example, every patch.

It was a seriously insufficient deterrent against MQ. Figuring out the new opcodes for common and exploitable packets wouldn't take long. But more obscure packets like guild stuff and whatnot wasn't worth the time.

But the side-effect is that only very specific patch versions are supported by EQEmu -- ones that came straight off a CD (so they are relatively obtainable), and which had a long enough window between initial release and the next patch coming down the line that they could capture and identify enough of the more obscure opcodes (and any changes to the packets' internal structure) to make it playable.

tl;dr if you try to use anything other than a client straight off the Titanium CDs, the server will have no idea how to communicate with you and you won't make it past server select.

Sorry that Skully Ship in the Bay crap and Torrent isn't happening. You would be crazy to risk that or your identity registering at a place like that. Now I have my hard copy and will make a few file copies and lock them up safe just in case.

You don't have to register, but it sounds like someone is enjoying your money already.

If P99 didn't use the titanium client. I wouldn't play it. Period.

I agree. In the simple fact that the rarity of it limits over population and allows focus to those truly invested in the experience.

It doesnt require anything - but some knowledge how to use the site

If you say so. All I know is I got an opaque over lay with a registration request that wouldn't allow any thing further till it was done. So I exited.

You're doing it wrong. Nothing wrong with paying though if that's what you are comfortable with.

Prices of Titanium can only go up; it's the bubble that will never burst!

Buy yours, make your copes and sell it on!

(note, I just copypasted my install from a friend's computer. Hope I can trust him :p)

Dude doesn't know how to torrent - can't really blame him for that. Although, as I've said before, there's really nothing ethically controversial about torrenting Titanium since it's a product that is no longer available through retail.

As far as the trustworthiness of torrents go, Casey's swashbuckling version is nothing to worry about, nor is the bay itself. Unless he's currently hoarding like 90% of the server's identities. I'm pretty sure that's not the case. Right, Casey?! On the other hand, torrents can often be trojan horses for trojans, but that's not saying anything about the plunderer's shore - just some of the people who use it maliciously. You learn how to avoid these.

It's all good. I'm no spring chicken and what may be basic wake up in the morning knowledge to you young folks, if you are young, this stuff wasn't every day easy know how back in the day like it is now. Your all born into this world in what was then new and not so well an understood frontier. I'm not tech savvy but remember when EQ dropped the bomb on us just after Kunark released with the DirectX upgrade to make rain realistic. I remember back then how unexplored it was for me to figure it out and get it installed right and always having to figure out new graphics card driver updates and having to add RAM sticks to your mother board to make it faster and of course it was all new and not just click here and we do it all for you in this download =). I'm trying though and with this new fangled thing we call internet and forums =P, it's so much easier. I thank you all for your help.

Oh did I mention having to play EQ on Dial Up? You don't know half the of it. Constant LDing and having to relog in, over and over and lag, and lag, and lag =). i wounder how i ever did all that but then remember.... Oh yea.. Evercrack =).
