I saw this on another post from 2012, and man... people on the internet are such jerks sometimes. I have to search for 10 minutes to find a white con at level 1. SO MANY yellow cons. This is not the EQ I remember. I played it then, and there was nowhere near this many yellow cons at level 1. Just funny- I'll have leveled in a few hours and can start taking on what's yellow now, but hot dang this is stupid!

Yeah. Everfrost can be brutal.

Everfrost is widely considered to be the hardest newb zone on p99. If you are anything but shaman you should leave asap.

Although a newbie can earn serious plat there by helping lv 50+ players killing ice giants. I used to run gold to the Halas bank from Perma entrance and usually got 50% when changed to plat. Plus i was given a lot of FS weps, so you can potentially have about 1.5-2k to twink yourself when you hit lv 7ish. :)

I just hit level 3. It's not so bad now that I have more than 30 hp... but yeah, once I get all the basic quests done that I want to and get enough ruined pelts to be walking around covered, I'm splitting. I do love Blackburrow though.... also Crushbone... decisions! :P
But yeah, I will remember that Everfrost is a brutal zone for level 1. It's just frustrating having to hunt for something you can actually kill at that level!

hit up Befallen. Perfect locale; run to EC for some buffs, head back & slaughter with the highest available ZEM in EQ

Blackburrow is very fun and classic. I would encourage you to bind in qeynos though, if you get killed in BB you have to run quite a gauntlet to get back from halas.
If the surefall glade port was on p99 the qeynos/halas area of the world would have a lot more people in it.

Stop complaining about Halas and be a Barbarian...
Your big, your tough and you can stomp out anything... And that's just the female Barbarians.

The devs have been made aware of this. They did improve things last year after we complained about it which is appreciated.
However, I do not believe the Everfrost newbie area is close to the same as it was on live.
The problems:
-not enough level 1 mobs and far too many yellow cons for a level 1 player
-still not enough level 1-3 mobs in general
You pretty much have to be twinked to survive and progress through the Everfrost newbie zone.

This is what the community needs. Thanks Detoxx for starting to reach out to the new player base. A true raid hero. Hit this guy up, he's loaded and has plenty of free time so I'm sure he will run up to ever frost and help you out.

Agreeds. Except the last sentence, obviously you can struggle by without twink.

Whenever I am running a character to Halas and in danger of running past the entrance in Everfrost, I can usually find it by looking for the naked barbarian corpses.

Everfrost has always been probably the hardest newbie zone there is but it's a bit harder in p99 as no one really levels there, the old days there was people to group with and help each other.

Getting to Halas is like climbing Everest; corpses scattered everywhere in the ice along the way.

When I started here in 2010, it was on a Barb Shaman, naked and penniless. Some passerby tossed me like 50 plat and a fine steel spear, rest was history.
I picked off lowbie stuff til 2 or 3.
Then onto the ice goblin huts toward the south til 6 or 7ish.
Then the gnolls outside Blackburrow, collecting fangs.
Etc, etc.
Saved all my fangs til like 11 or 12 = insta midway through 14.
Picked up bind affinity, SoW, and headed off on foot for Freeport.
Was so very awesome after not playing EQ in almost a decade.

My very first character in eq was a barb, so everfrost has a special place in my heart. It's rough, but I think there's more reward in it. It's a shame people don't use the west side of the world as much, I think it's much better than shitty commanlands, nro, and oasis.
Suffer through it until blackburrow. Then save all your fangs until about level 10 to get you to 11/12. Then if you're feeling up for go to the whisp island in eruds crossing. Farm lightstones there until level 14ish, then head to nk and turn all those in. You'll get 16/17 off those.
Bandit camps in WK are also good for sashes around lvl 14 I think. Been a while.

Light stones are pretty decent xp and loot. I remember on Jimjam I had an almost full set of vendor brought plate (yes, the stuff that costs 100s per piece) by 17ish. It was pretty sweet. Fortunately the vendor sell back price is pretty decent too.

This is a good point. Halas is pretty brutal starting out, but things rapidly improve ^^ Welcome to p99 OP!
My first character was a Barbarian warrior, so Everfrost always gets special love from me. I think the zone is fabulous for low levels. Many of the mobs roam down a specific path and can be pulled to the side for easy exp. You can get tattered armor through turning in skins. It really is a fantastic zone.
Damn! Now I want to make a Barbarian warrior but who has time for that these days?

I think what I disliked about Halas/Everfrost the most when I was a newbie Barbarian was getting lost and the Vengeful Lyricist, Vengeful Composer and Vengeful Soloist.
These three always seemed to find me no matter where I went or just when I would get into a fight...

Vengeful skeletons are a pain and way overpowered for the newbie zone. I don't believe they were in the game during the original launch, but I could be wrong. I don't remember them until Kunark came out.

So they are like those random high level brownies in L Fay? unnecessary griefing mobs that got added to a newbie zone post-release?

Everfrost is easily one of the worst zones in the game, however it is next to the best zone of all time - Black Burrow!

I can concur on how hard it is but it makes you a better player in my humble opinion. I always get a kick out of level (likely teleported) 4-8 barbarian shamans in EC asking where to buy spells!! :)
