View Full Version : Single Character won't load in specific zone....

I've scoured the forums and old archived posts about this but haven't found a solution yet.

The problem: I attempt to log onto my main character and once I hit "Enter World" in the Character select screen, the computer acts as normal and starts to load up, hangs a little longer than my other characters but then disconnects to the account login screen.

This only occurs on my main character who is stuck in GFay BUT, when I've had the admin move my character to Felwithe, I was able to log in and bank and act as normal. Once I zoned into GFay again, the game booted me out to my account login screen again.

All of my other characters are able to go into and out of GFay perfectly fine, I've been able to create characters perfectly fine; it seems to only be the one character.

Things done to attempt to fix the issue:
Cleared all possible caches, cookies, etc....
Reinstalled the game multiple times
Messed with resolution and UI files to see if that would fix something
Tried switching to WinEQ

I may be missing some things I've done since it has been a couple weeks now of trying to fix on my own. Mind you that while trying all of these, my other characters worked perfectly fine.

ANY help on this issue would be greatly appreciated and if I haven't done it, I will probably attempt to do whatever is suggested since I am desperate to get back on my main character again.

Also, Running Windows 7

delete the log file for that character, if those happened to get retained between installs

All logs were deleted and last install was in a new location to avoid it being a messed up file system or reading old data.....

I also forgot to add my dbg info...... it appears that it isn't loading the ITEMS for this specific character where it normally does.

the last lines in the dbg.txt file with everything I think needs to be in there...... if someone sees that more is needed, i should be able to add more as well

This is an issue with data related to that character on the P99 servers - nothing you change on your own hard drive will fix this. I'm 100% sure of this, so that's a good starting point.

Unfortunately I can't say exactly what the data conflict is because there are so many different ways bad data can cause this. Duplicate lore items are a classic example - for instance, if you acquire multiple non-lore items and then at some point they retroactively change all of those items to be lore, that would then be "bad data" on your character which is all stored on the P99 servers. The Skipping Stone crashing bug is another example of bad data.

So it sounds like something about Greater Faydark is conflicting with the data on that character. Or, maybe it's not only Greater Faydark and the same thing would happen with other zones too. I'm willing to wager it's item data though, since that's usually the culprit for this kind of thing. Not positive, just a hunch.

Here's what I would do - get moved back to Felwithe, since you know you can log into that zone, and then do an /outputfile inventory blahblah.txt and look for anything out of the ordinary in the text file. Another thing you could try after you're back in Felwithe is unequipping and reequipping everything on your character one by one - if at some point it crashes then you've likely found the offending item. Same with everything else in your inventory - bags, everything in your bags, if items are stacked then take one out of the stack and put it back, etc. And put in a forum petition, obviously - server GMs are much better equipped to suss out the problem, once they find the time for it.

When you reinstalled did you install it to different locations each time.

Sometimes your zone files do get corrupt. It is best to get a known working zone file from someone and see if that works.

paulgiamatti

I doubt that's the problem since he doesn't have any problems with Greater Faydark on any of his other characters.

I did reinstall it in different locations just in case it was a corrupt file system or if it read from old data..... didn't work.

i could try and have someone pass me the Gfay zone file and see if that works, its worth a shot but like paulgiamatti said, my other characters work in there so it doesn't seem to be the culprit but i will try the item moving one at a time.....

start naked i'd assume and then start adding a couple or so

Also, I forgot to mention your banked items, which will all show up in the /outputfile inventory text file. I'm not exactly sure how bank item data is handled, but that's another thing to try if nothing on your character seems to be causing any problems.

The thought occurred to me that it might have something to do with something in your bank. Felwithe and Greater Faydark both have bank vendors - as I understand it, all of your banked item data is attached to those vendor NPCs.

It's a long shot, but maybe for some weird reason it's okay with you zoning *into* a zone with a bank vendor (Felwithe), and then glitches out when you try to zone out of the zone containing the bank vendor and puts your character in a bugged state.

I guess a way you could try to verify this is get moved to a different zone other than Felwithe or Greater Faydark with a bank, like North Freeport, and then try to zone over to West Freeport.

i had the same thing happen from lfay and butcher too..... It really sounds like file corruption.

Honestly I would look for another source of Titianium.

Maybe try making a whole new account and see if that has anything to do with it.

I am having this EXACT same issue and it just started last night. I camped in GFAY and am now unable to log back in. The same thing happens to me, it will pause and then kick me back to the login screen (with the occasional "you have been disconnected"). I can log into all other characters in other zones. There is something with GFAY only. I have tried all the old fixes posted for this issue like turning loading art off and turning cached mode off. I guess I will need to petition to get moved into Felwithe tonight.

I think it is but I think Paul hit it on the head with being a server-side corruption. A good way to test this would be to try logging in on another computer with a different install and seeing if the result is different. If it was local file corruption, clearing out the characters .ini/config file would/should fix the issue.

I have not deleted the .ini/config file. Will try this tonight after work.

So i deleted the files and was instantly able to log in. However, I do not think the deletion of the files was the actual resolution and here is why. I was able to zone into Felwithe from Gfay without issue and ground transfer some items to my twink (8 backpacks full of Crushbone belts & pads). I then logged onto my level 1 and attempted to zone out of Felwithe into Gfay and it paused and kicked me straight back to the login screen. I tried getting back in at least a dozen times and yes I deleted the ini and config file for this toon as well with no luck at all.

I tried again this morning before leaving for work and was able to get in on the 3rd attempt. I zoned into Butcherblock, camped, and confirmed I was able to get back in on the first try.

I noticed Jalico is a satellite user and so am I. I think this does have something to do with bandwidth/speed but it only seems to affect Gfay. So the real question is what can we do as satellite users to resolve this? Oh, and satellite or dial up are my only options unfortunately - I would give my left nut for cable or DSL at this point.

No, just the ini files for those two only. This has never happened to me in EC, I have my druid bound there for ports etc ..

Satellite could definitely come into play. Satellite connections can be very inconsistent, not sure what you'd be able to do to fix that. This would explain possibly why this happens sporadically and not every time though. Your signal has to travel a lot further (physical anyways) than someone who has Cable/DSL or even Dial Up.

Memory error's are not network related. Those are client based issues.

Satellite is known for having some serious latency issues. Most notably on the upstream side. I would be willing to bet it has something to do with P99......

Stormy weather, dense clouds, sun spots, and many other things can cause major suck in the quality of the connection.

Completely agree with you here..... I have tried to do whatever I can to get better internet service but haven't been able to find anything yet.

Now for an update:

I was placed in Felwithe and was able to load in correctly as per normal. Then did a transfer with a buddy one bag at a time, zoned out and zoned back in making sure each bag was good to go.

latency was going up the more items I had on my character but I was still able to zone into and out of Gfay perfectly fine, though with more and more of a wait time (could have been me getting more and more nervous it was going to crash, though, too). This especially became apparent after my backpack of 3 stacks of food, 3 stacks of water, and 2 almost full stacks of tiny daggers, my latency once getting into zone (which is when it is highest for me until it settles down) was right about 1100ms (feel lucky any other internet user). This was up compared to the ~950ms when I had no gear at all in my inventory or body.

The bag that caused me to disconnect while zoning into Gfay (and actually give me a "You have been disconnected" black screen) was my bag of stacked gems for my jewelry making. I had a lot (not 8 stacks of 20) in there. Luckily I was able to relog back on without a GM forcibly moving me to Felwtihe. Once logged on, zoned perfectly back into Felwithe and I am in the process of removing all of those gems either by selling or jewelry making.

An earlier post was brought up and I think it fits our case right now, @urbanbo. And this is only a somewhat decently researched hunch, may not be the only recourse. As a satellite user, we can only run so much BW before we get booted..... and really I think it has more to do with time than anything else (not sure if this could possibly change from a dev's perspective). It tends to kick me approximately 2 mins after loading into a zone that it won't allow me in. That seems to be the approximate time for a disconnect anyways and I think the server boots us/ gives up on the connection even if our internet is still connected and we're just loading extremely slowly.

So if we have a ton of items (stackable or not) in and out of the bank, AND we are heading into a "bankable" zone, our characters have to load as well as the bankable items in case we hit that up. The special case appears to be Gfay itself. As a large and widely used zone, the latency is already going to be a little higher than normal, not to mention the city within that has the merchants and bank, etc.... with the loading that already has to happen, PLUS our item counts, it appears to be

Honestly I hope this is the reason and answer to our problems cause I haven't been able to look at most of Kunark, or in the case of FV, even set foot in. If this helps me fix some of the zoning issues, it just means I have to live the minimalist life until I get into the zone I plan on using. If you're problem is similar to mine, which is sounds so, once I am loaded into a zone, I'm perfectly fine to move about and act as normal and interact just fine; its the loading in that causes the crash.

I hope this helps anyone else having issues. I was really happy I didn't have to delete my character and start over.

tl;dr..... items create more latency inside and out of bank slots, latency issues compounded with slow internet possibly times out users during load in to large zones (especially with banks). Solve by getting rid of a bunch of items until you can work properly.

It's a problem with too many possible causes to zero in on a silver bullet solution - usually has something to do with item data, but bad zone files or a bad connection can also be the culprit. If you're still stuck in OT just throw in a forum petition and they'll get to you - never hurts to reinstall EQ or try different things like attempt to log in on a different computer, or on a different connection, etc.

I believe this helped me, I can't zone into overthere without dcing but if I log in from char select now I can actually load in when before I needed a gm to move me
