I think I'ma make a Ranger. Likely of the Half Elf variety, what do you guys think?
I played EQ when I was a boy, and loved it. Of course it's been a long time since I've played and I'm pretty excited to try it out again. I found out about this server and knew that I just had to join up and give EQ a whirl.
I've played pretty much every MMO there is and in my EQ days I was able to take my ranger to the plane of disease if I remember correctly, so I'm ready to have some fun.
So I'm wondering if there's any advice you folks had to give for a nub, what guilds are recruiting and if there's still lowB's to play with.
Thanks, Reefer.

Advice = grouping is your friend. I have found this game much more enjoyable as I meet new folks through various XP groups.

I'd recommend saving all your plat to buy a Silver Swiftblade asap, it runs for about 100p. After that get a set of banded.

There is no Plane of Disease here.

Don't make a ranger on this server, rangers aren't really good in classic. It wasn't until they got AA that they became a good DPS class.

It's shortsighted to only look at dps output and not the distinct other skills each class brings to a group. And consider your like of a class.

Rangers are nice DPS on P99 with Velious out. Don't listen to the trolls, they get some killer gear that makes them beasts + all the other tools they have
Ranger DPS is greatly aided by Velimus being out. With that being said, Ranger is a rough first char. Melee is so gear dependent (suppose monks evade some of that statement). Dont let that deter you though, if you play a class you love youll stick with it regardless.

Rangers have ok dps and can single pull in out door zones, they can tank fine in exp groups.

Play a ranger if you like them. Tracking and sow are both awesome to have, they do respectable dps. You will encounter a lot of people here that have some twisted mentality that if you are not playing a character with best in slot gear, perfectly optimized stats, and a specific race/class combo, you aren't having fun. Ignore them.
Ignore anyone on the forums that tries to entice you to play on red server.

It is anecdotal but I have yet to meet a ranger who wasn't awesome. I wonder if something about the class selects nice people? They are well rounded and people are always looking for melee / pulling (plus it is nice to be different).

Probably more to do with the forum min max trolls that scare everyone who doesn't know the game away.

Hi welcome to the server!
I recommend using this plat guide program as I used it and was very happy with he results. If you end up making a class that does not have a pet, I would suggest doing everything it says but wait until you're about 2-4 levels higher. Sisters camp you might want to wait until you're 4 levels higher for sure. Highkeep ears were huge in making money if you spend your time from levels 22-34 there and selling the ears in EC that can go from 20 to 30pp. If you decide to Hunt in Mistmoore just have a mage make you some 100% Weight reduction bags and loot all the bronze weapons. once bag is full, go to Lessor Faydark and just sell them. Good luck!

Sneak is an incredible tool for pulling with indoor zones too. Rarely see anything other than monks doing a good job with sneak though.
