So I am on the last book of the Malazan Book of the Fallen (Crippled God) and find myself directionless on where to go after I am done. Here is what I have read over, roughly, the last 7 years or so.

Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson (on book 10 of 10)
The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (completed 13/13) /cringe
Game of Thrones series by GRMM (waiting on next book)
King Killer Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss (waiting on last book, 2 complete)
The Storm Light Archive by Brandon Sanderson (read first 2, waiting on 3rd)
The Belgariad series by David Eddings (5 books - complete)
The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King (stand alone)

I have been pretty heavy on reading about wizards and dragons (as you can tell from the selections here) and would almost welcome something with a bit of a different theme, but I love wizards and dragons so thats always an option.

Main thing is I want to read something that is good and not 13 books long - give me some suggestions!

I was actually thinking about reading some Star Wars books....

Well, I would suggest the Sword of Shadows series by JV Jones.

The first book is called A Cavern of Black Ice.

New Stephen King book 11/22/63 (date JFK was assassinated) is pretty damn good. Centers around time travel. Also if you're a king fan, and fan of "The Shining". "Doctor Sleep" is amazing, sequel to the shining.

Has anyone read the Dark Tower series by Stephen King?

Disc World Series is pretty good. Really anything from Terry Prachett is good. He's got a good selection of movies as well.

I've just started reading the Symphony of Ages series again. The first book is called Rhapsody by Elizabeth Haydon. It pretty well covers the entire fantasy series of wizards and dragons ect. I only made it half way through the series before, since then she has added quite a few more books. I think it is up to 9 atm, though I can't say as to how good the series holds up in the second half.

Very painful read. Much boring. So zzzzz

But really, it was a major chore finishing that book for such a shitty ending

Sword of shadows suggested above is pretty damn good, the only problem is idk if the final book is ever getting released. Author has been a ghost for like 6 years or somethin

Name of the wind, heroes die, mistborn, steelheart are all first books in good series

Lies of locke lamora wasnt bad, but book 2 and 3 got boring for me. Cant think of any others atm but high fantasy is in a pretty shitty place with tons of bad authors besides a handful of them

E didnt see kingkiller chronicle in op

Has anyone read the Dark Tower series by Stephen King?

I have read the Dark Tower Series, and it is pretty awesome. The ending certainly surprised me, but I thought it fit. A lot of memorable scenes and plots. My friends who have read the series make references to it all the time. They are even coming out with some kind of movie and/or tv series about it in the near future.

I would recommend the Gotrek and Felix series from Warhammer Fantasy. It is more a of wizards and dragons type of series. A human swears an oath to a dwarf slayer to chronicle his adventures until he meets his doom. The dwarf turns out to be nigh unkillable, and kills a lot of cool things along the way.

Horus Heresy books from Warhammer 40k are awesome as well. Super elite post human warriors being commanded by even more elite demi-god creations start to conquer the galaxy in the name of human kind. Then they turn on each other and set the galaxy on fire.

The Talisman by Stephen King sounds like it might be up your alley, it's a departure from his typical horror books and closer to a fantasy novel (but not really). One of my top 3 favorite books.

Hmm for something sword and sorcery like I would recommend the Elric Saga. Basically a drug addicted (keeps him alive) elf with a sword that drinks souls and shit. They are short books but a pretty decent little series.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elric_of_Melnibon%C3%A9

The Farseer Trilogy is pretty decent. Its medieval but not all that high fantasy but basically centers around a character who is being apprenticed as a royal assassin. There is more going on but thats the basics.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Farseer_Trilogy

If you want something different with a fantasy bent I would recommend the Dresden series of books the show the Dresden Files was based on. Modern setting but dude is a detective/magician wizard what have you.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dresden_Files

If you want some non fantasy recommendations I would go cyberpunk with the Sprawl Trilogy by William Gibson starting with Neuromancer or you could give Neal Stephensons Snow Crash a read.

non-fiction

Swore off non-fiction after college... Only thing I would be interested in is maybe something about outer-space, and even then I don't really want to read about physics and math... Plus TV is a better medium for that type of thing.

Real life is better in documentary form IMO

You could try the warhammer 40k books or even Shadowrun. Combines sci-fi and fantasy.

Ah, well I have nothing against people who like fiction. I've read a few that I liked, but I just can't justify it. Even though I guess its improves imagination, creativity, and can relate to real world lessons. And its entertaining.

The only book I can think of is Vril, The Power of the Coming Race. Only because its written like fiction, but relates to reality.

Here's a summary, and there's a .pdf you can find on google.

Props on the Thule society drop. Never really got into that mysticism though or alien beings stuff. Honestly think Hitler didnt buy into any of that stuff either. Mostly his henchmen like Himmler and Hess and such. He banned astrology after Hess's flight to England (some controversy there about the entire story's authenticity and the whole astrology deal)and had the Mangrove root guy killed. Then he shut down Masonry and related groups.

For an alternative view on occultism and the 3rd Reich there is a youtube video put out buy a guy named Dennis Wise. He did an interesting 6ish hour series called The Grestest Story Never Told about Hitler I recommend to anyone. Anyhow here is his Hitler Occultism Debunked in 3 min video. Not conclusive but it does interject some doubt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVekwQ2i04g

I thought The Dark Tower series was awesome. Fantasy Horror Western? Yes,plz.

If you want typical fantasy series though Sword of Truth, Sword of Shannara Trilogy, Dark Elf Trilogy & Icewind Dale are decent.

Chuck Palahniuk writes some pretty crazy stuff if your into progressive fiction (he wrote Fight Club)

House of Leaves was one of the weirdest/best reading experiences I've had.

Or you could always reach for some classics ... I'm currently reading H.P. Lovecraft.

Def. one of King's best but based off your past books, I'd still recommend The Dark Tower series. He wrote the series over a 30ish year period so each book has a slightly different feel (which I found was cool). King considers this series as his magnum opus.

He also thought lord of the flies was good. I liked the first book in dark tower series and kinda consider the rest a waste of time. I actually really enjoyed the ending to the series though.

To each their own. The Gunslinger was an awesome book though but I'm partial to the The Waste Lands. Blaine the Mono was an awesome character

Yeah basically books that when i walk over to her and read over her shoulder i can find some kind of sex act happening or someone's feelings being expressed. Personally i dont mind her reading those books cause it just gives her ideas for in the bedroom so works for me until she starts to want to poke me with things lol.

OP has read The Wheel of Time. He knows drawn out. Dark Tower compares nothing to that.

I just found the biker aspect funny. I didn't know it had become a thing in the romance for housewives book scene. Started picturing Ron Perlman on the cover.

This is a pretty good list. I've read about a dozen of these.
