Magician epic pet vs. their best regular pet, how significant is the DPS difference?

Depends on what you call "best pet".
Soloing pre-epic you would probably use the earth pet in many situations. Don't have parses but of the top of my head I wanna say epic is about 1.5 times increase...

Max hit is barely higher but it hits alot faster and the pet's nukes + DS definitely add up.

The epic pet is also higher level so it will miss a bit lesS.

I wonder how the epic pet would compare to water pet in group situation where water pet can stab.

I didn't mean for soloing, just the actual highest DPS pet vs. epic pet. In other words, how much more DPS will an epic mage vs. non-epic be doing in a group setting where the pet's tankiness doesn't matter and you can use whichever pet you like.

The difference is massive in every aspect. Epic tanks way better with the best DS. The max hit is quite a bit higher and in a regular exp group the epic proc will land easily and a lot. Epic approaches monk level dps on it's own.
