View Full Version : Cancel magic vs shadowbond debuff

I'm sure I'm missing something silly and I swear I've done this before with the previous necro heal over time spells in the line but when I try to cancel magic the top slotted shadowbond debuff it's taking the second buffslot rather than the first. Going crazy here.

Dug deeper. Guess being able to Pell the debuff wasn't ever intended. Was this patched recently?
If by recently you mean ~6-12 months ago, yes.
It was overpowered as shit. It deserved to be fixed, but also made me sad.

Do you have max (15) buffs running when attemping this? If a debuff overwrites a buff when you have all buff slots filled, the server and client get out sync. On the client the debuff appears in slot 1. Server-side, it appears in slot 16, so it becomes the last thing to be dispelled.
Try keeping slot 1 and 2 open when the debuff lands on you.

For those saying it still works, is it working with only the top slot open? I'll give it a go with two slots.

Nope, didn't have max buffs. First slot empty. Seemed like it would Pell either my second or third slot.
Cancel magic is not reliable. Use Nullify or Annul and keep a clicky up for the extra dispell slot.

Annul Magic and Recant Magic are the only spells that will reliably remove the top two and four buffs, respectively.
I quit trying to Dispel the Negative Recourse a while back with the 'Shadow Heals' line after had some folks tell me that it was dropping the positive heal effect on them?
Pseudo tested on Pet a few times that was low health; I could see the big bumps in his HP every tick while the spell was doing it's 4 ticks. If I did the Cancel Magic on myself it seems the big ticks stopped for him as well; mirroring the behavior of what the other players were telling me. (Yes, performed this before the spell naturally wore out)
I presumed this was 'fixed' a while back to link the target-caster effects and to cancel one would cancel the other. Can't prove -- didn't try any further. Now I just don't fret it. Less hassle trying to juggle buffs and don't feel 'dirty' for 'exploiting' the unintended. Shrug.
