View Full Version : Comparing level 45 from Oct 2012 to level 45 from today

On October 3 and 4 of 2012, my enchanter Tecmos went from 45 to 46 in LOIO killing 124 bloodgill goblins and 1 bloodgill maurader. During this time there was no server XP bonus (to my knowledge), but Tecmos WAS suffering from the 10% experience penalty all int casters had back then.

On July 2, 3, and 4 of 2016, my enchanter Noman went from 45 to 46 in LOIO killing 113 bloodgill goblins. During this time, there was a 25% XP bonus, and Noman was NOT suffering from the 10% experience penalty. Assuming that over the course of 100+ bloodgill goblin spawns, the average level of goblin Tecmos and Noman killed were VERY CLOSE... Noman should only have needed to kill ~91 goblins to get all the way through 45.

I could buy it if it took him 95 or even 100. But 113? Something changed or something is wrong with either the zone or the mobs or the experience formula.

PS - If I break charm and then kill my former pet first, then the other mob... is that going to give different XP than breaking charm and killing the other mob first, then my former pet?

Blue99 problems.

I tried red. I streamed myself soloing in HS. No one came to PVP, and this was when there were 250+ online.

Is asking for PVP and not getting any a red99 problem?

And related on both lines of thought, I think I did 45 on bloodgills on red also. Looking for those logs. Shit. I duod some with Alawen's cleric in LOIO, and I don't feel like sorting that shit out.

Probably based off of the goblin levels. Maybe you killed more greens than expected. Also did you die at all?

It shouldn't.

That is weird though.

There's no actual PVP on Red99. It's monk/rogue twinks with fungi/tstaff/etc smashing ungeared lowbies until they leave the server.

It is, by far and largely it's own worst enemy. You can't constantly beg for new players, and then grief them off while crying nobody plays your shit hole server.

When I tried red....it was actually 4 of those grouped (epic rogues with fungi) ....running around and then ganked me in crushbone. There was no one else in the zone....

Red players are worse at PVP then blue players :P On blue you can actually fight people in fair fights....red they are just trying to get their griefing kicks.

I didn't die at all. No blood gills are green yet at 45.

And as for Noman having "bad luck" and fighting stuff that was lower level? i'd literally have had to get max-level spawns all the time on Tecmos and min-level spawns all the time on Noman. Do you know what the odds are of RNGing (1/4) or (1/5)^238 are? Do you really think I ran into a once-since-the-dawn-of-the-universe event here? Besides, my logs show I faced a variety of levels (based on max hits) with both chanters, so this can't possibly explain things.

LOL @ the "I hid deep in a keyed dungeon on a low pop server and didn't get the PvP that I asked for" line.

Its FAR worse now. Last time I logged my 26 shammy on red, about a month ago, there was a trio of best-in-slot Pally/Bard/Rogue crew clearing all the noobie zones. They were clearly deleveled and had NEAR-FULL NTOV gear.

Oh yea....and don't forget the level 60 druid buffing, healing, and porting them all over Norrath.

Bunch of whiners in this thread. There isn't a lot of pvp on red at the moment, and most happens at 56+. Griefers exists still, but I think I've seen one of the MM twinks twice in two months and I've leveled a few characters through there in that time.

Could be the ZEM of the zone got modded?

Blue server isn't worth talking about.

People's lives are so empty that they have to talk about the number of Goblins they killed on Blue. Yikes. Gotta wake up and realize exactly what an unfulfilling time waste that kind of gameplay is. It's like doing nothing but playing Solitaire your whole life.

125 kills to earn level 45 with old xp formula and no server xp bonus put the ZEM just above 100 (and that's being generous with he average level of the goblins. Thanks for your opinion that isnt backed up by a log though.

So you're saying you hunted through patch logs instead of just checking the wiki zem list? LoIO is currently listed at 60 ZEM with 75 being a "normal" zem. AKA LoIO currently gives about ~20%ish less exp than a zone with a normal zem. Also bloodgill goblins' levels vary, so I dont think youre ever going to get a 100% accurate parse of mobs killed vs exp gained unless you factored in mob level as well.

Patch logs? I'm looking at my logs, and the easily-verified experience formula from the wiki. Wiki ZEM list is pretty bad really, cause it's just the stock emu one with like 10 random changes that consist of comments like "ZEM seems higher."

LOIO is goofy to begin with. http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143777&highlight=LOIO shows a post where I mention that I tested killing a level 1 mob with a level 1 iksar and saw a ZEM of 75 in the same day that I was experiencing a different ZEM at blood gills.

And over the course of 100+ kills, the average level of the blood gills will be what matters, not the fact that I theoretically could see nothing except min or max level ones in any given level 45.

Oh well. I've brought this kinda stuff up before and had as much constructive discussion as this time around :)

LOIO's ZEM on P99 blue is 80. That meshes with Noman's experience on blood gills for level 45, and it also meshes with testing a level 1 necro against level 1 mobs in LOIO just now.

But http://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=760068&postcount=17 ... so... uh... I guess LOIO used to have a worse ZEM overall with an exception of a great ZEM for blood gills... and now the whole zone has the same ZEM of 80.

Questions, Questions, Questions. Modern minds can come up with three questions:

Did you never let pet kill a mob with either toon? If you did, do you have a way of distinguishing half-exp kills from full-exp ones? Is there a 'slain' message if your pet kills a mob and you're out of range?

Nah, no mistakes there. Pets getting a kill are logged as "X has been slain by Y" whereas me getting a kill with a nuke is "you have slain X."

It doesn't really bother me, just always struck me as odd and gave me something to over-immerse myself in while medding between kills.
