Are enchanters bad in PVP?

I've started leveling up on Red. I have an almost 16 enchanter and a level 10 bard. I know bards are supposedly fairly strong, and I've heard enchanters are weak.

Can anyone explain their advantages and disadvantages? I don't know the PVP mechanics very well.

From what I recall enchanters were good back on Rallos Zek in the old days with charming people and whirl till you hurl lines. I know you cant charm people, but do the whirl spells suck in PVP on this server?

Can you mez people in PVP? I haven't been able to test anything cause I haven't really run into anyone around my level yet.

Can someone provide me with a decent understanding of the mechanics involved. Also, what are the better pvp classes (pre-raiding gear and post raiding gear).

Arguably the best caster on the server mains an Enchanter. But he plays it differently than most. You need a cool head and exceptional awareness. Most enchanters play like other casters, but you need to be smarter. Swapping spells mid-pvp, using your environment.

A good ench paired with another can tash strip someone to the point they are flailing around spamming clickies while getting beat up by a melee or having wiz nukes bombing them. At 60 you have many options, killing someone 1v1 is a bit harder unless pure melee and pre charm buff pet. Between recant/rapture/pillage/tash/root/mana sieve/cripple-weakness/theft you can drain a caster to 0m while crippling them so they are so low str they are crawling or can't move. Gonna go ahead and say though without great gear n key items ie cure shield your best going to be assist in PvP not a killer just one that makes kills happen

Dunno I just remembered him joining empire for a bit and engaging his untagged sk in pvp in lavastorm and he would send you tells about how hes gunna kick ur arse and wait here he gunna log his chanter in etc.

chanters are playmakers.

They require a bit of finesse to play and a poorly played chanter sticks out like a sore thumb.

I've always considered strut to be lethal in pvp as a chanter.

Good to know, thanks for all of the feedback. It does help provide insight. It's going to be a while for me to get up there (I'm only level 14 atm), but I'll get there! I think the most difficult part is just getting spells. Theyre freakking expensive when you cant just twink yourself haha!

Does anyone know the facts about CHA from testing? I may roll a chanter but i'm considering putting my points into INT so I have a decent mana pool. I know it can be capped from end game gear but that's a loooooong ways away and I remember it not making much difference once you get over 130 or whatever. Should I even stack CHA with my gear? Seems like INT is the way to go in general, or can someone confirm 100% that stacking CHA is best and noticeable?

And do their spells usually get resisted in end game PVP regardless of tash etc?

Currently my ench is basic gear with epic that's about the best item he has next to classic and low end kunark cha gear. He tops over 255 still even though I removed both opalline earrings, crude stein(went ORS) and he still has like 8cha over cap with splendor buff. Neriad shawl is like 25cha alone which is big. I find myself with plenty of mana at 60 acc medding up with c2/gob isn't bad at all. If there are targets to theft I can keep up with at least 75% mana or higher between keeping bedlam up stuff rooted tashed whatever. Mez tash root stuff takes almost no mana. Can regen it back in 3 ticks. As far as resists go at end game PvP, tash helps and on some ppl it'll allow you to land spells especially on certain class that start with low MR etc that require some velious gear/flowers to make them highly resistable. Rapture will land regardless but can be thwarted by a crimson pot or any dot/dmg. You probably won't be nuking anyone to death because your spell line is all MR base. So unless you catch a naked, or a non velious geared monk or other low MR class pre good gear you won't land anything. Worth a shot sometimes though, I've tash rooted monks and even some bad bards before.

I'm pretty sure I'd suck, but I was talking to Ksah one night and that PvP role is just too sadistic for me to not wanna play. I never cared about YTs. But watching an NPC guard I tricked someone into agroing or my guildies steamroll someone always made smile. Really wish I went enc instead of rogue here.

Enchanter is pretty much the only class i play here and they are monsters when piloted by the right person. I am by no means one of the best on the server, but when Reebz gets on Maelzai he tends to do work.

int or cha in the long run doesnt really matter to much imo. But for leveling i would prefer to have more cha over int, if you can prevent 1 charm breaking early that saves you more mana than the int would most likely provide.
Enchnaters are also hands down the best farmers in eq, with the right gear and little practice can easily solo Alice4/Thrones or seb to make some plats/gear.

Dispells and tash are going to be your main priority in pvp

If you play a chanter and want to get them raid geared just be ready for probably the worst class to play on raids. Basically you are a buff bitch, raids like fear or hate are fun because you actually get to do some crowd control but on almost all other raids you just hang out and buff people.

Chanters are awesome grouping or DUO in PVE, you can farm items or exp really fast. There is not much an enchanter and a cleric can not do as long as the enchanter has high enough charisma to make charm stick decent.

I loved playing my enchanter in PVP, worst case scenario if you can't get a kill you can strip peoples buffs, steal their mana and cripple them. Seemed a lot of people on this server were just as scared about losing their buffs as they were dying. I was often able to chase people off just by chain dispelling them.

Anyway, I have played most classes and I think my favorite class over all for pvp and pve has been an enchanter.

Basically yaw enchanter are giving amazing if played right. I'm not great on one but I've came into fights and just started dropping tashes and stripping everyone 3-4 casts per. Most people drop levi, sow, hp buffs after getting dispelled that hard making then even easier to finish

enchanters and bards are both top tier pvp classes but they're both group/mass pvp oriented and not 1v1 characters.

as an enchanter you will usually be among the first players to be targeted in any PVP so knowing zones and how to juke players is essential. an enchanter's role in pvp is to set up enemies to get crushed by your pals. you can get kill shots too, but that's not your strength. expect to die a lot as an ench unless you know what you're doing, but if you play it right you'll feel like you were a deciding factor in just about every pvp encounter. you can only really 1v1 bad players, or players with bad gear; a velious gear stacked melee will laugh at you as everything resists before tearing you apart like a damp napkin. but in any 2+ vs * pvp you are a god.

as a bard your primary role is to buff your teammates, especially the melee's. bards are more or less indestructible in outdoor zones when played right unless heavily focus fired or hit by an enchanter. you won't ever really die unless you get caught in a bad spot in an indoor zone. you also won't ever really get any kill shots unless you're lucky. despite this bards are a top tier essential group pvp class.

I vaguely remember that, but given Strut's tell it was probably closer to a year ago not 1.5x. Probably 3rd month on the server, and I had never played red on live....in hindsight I really wish I had, this place has been a blast.
